This feels like deliberately polarising nonsense to me.

One commenter on this thread has said the article was written by an academician whose research she respects. I posted this because I thought it would inspire some interesting discussion but if it becomes antagonistic I may ask for the thread to be locked.

I apologize to anyone who thinks this shouldn't be posted. I really did want to see if people seriously agreed with that author's views or their reasons for disagreeing.

There's also a viral Vogue article claiming that having a boyfriend is embarassing nowadays.

It's the same message of the article in OP https://www.vogue.co.uk/article/is-havi ... assing-now

From the Vogue article:

Quote:
But there was an overwhelming sense from single and partnered women alike that, regardless of the relationship, being with a man was an almost guilty thing to do. On The Delusional Diaries Podcast, fronted by two New York-based influencers, Halley and Jaz, they discuss whether having a boyfriend is “lame” now. “Why does having a boyfriend feel Republican?” read a top comment, with 12,000 likes. “Boyfriends are out of style. They won’t come back in until they start acting right,” read another, with 10,000 likes. In essence, “having a boyfriend typically takes hits on a woman’s aura”, as one commenter claimed. Funnily enough, both of these hosts have partners, which is something I often see online. Even partnered women will lament men and heterosexuality – partly in solidarity with other women, but also because it is now fundamentally uncool to be a boyfriend-girl.

^I bet those women are obsessed with the current top celebs & latest social media trends. As much as I hated being single, I'm pretty sure I would rather be single than with someone that shallow

Indeed, those ones are literally living inside their Social Media bubble.

People were gay when it was illegal in the western world, and people around the world today are still gay where it's illegal. I doubt that some influencers saying "having a boyfriend is lame" will prevent any significant number of straight women from having romantic relationships with men. If it's a fashion choice to not having a boyfriend I think they weren't very interested in the first place.

What about women with husbands? Am I being unfashionable for having a husband? So we're supposed to be single or lesbian now?

My best friend is a lesbian. I seem to fit in with lesbians. Sometimes I wish I were a lesbian myself. But I'm not, and I don't believe anybody chooses their sexuality.

I definitely like men, especially from the 1800s, in their top hats and bow ties. Dreamy. 8)

I think you may be right. Most couples don't get married these days. I just like to be old-fashioned lol.
