You don't see many couples where she makes more money then he does ...

Or that she is taller than he is ....

Make of that what you will...

my biggest gripe about the topic is the vast inclusion of EVERY truck driver and EVERY woman and EVERY man. What a load of crock!

I think of women in Afghanastan and don't see the gold digging personal ads that eliminate people like Johnnie from the dating pool. So there is a small contingent that are not EVERY woman, just for an example.

Unspoken bias. There's ads for women in Russia that sound like they'd simply be happy to have a faithful, sober husband who doesn't slap them around, and makes enough money for them to have a home to themselves.

We just enjoy bashing each other here in the decadent Western Civilisation.

well, where women are regimented into narrow social confines with little or no determination of their own lives - and with a mindset of only being useful when an auxiliary of the society of men. .. bound by religion and culture to be the property of the father until, like property, transfered to the husband . . .
well yes, the Johnnies of the world might be in their element and be very 'lucky' indeed.

OK :) So what I am making of it is that men are generally taller than women, and men are usually paid more than women (even for a similar job). Is that too simplistic a view?

yeah, I see it hammering home the stereotypes so we women can be folded back into the old myths and ideas of a group that has their own plans for our lives.
Its so strange that men have defined what a 'woman' is and what is being 'womanly' and if you go against it you are 'shrill' and 'shrewish' and 'not womanly'.
Bah!
what claptrap!

I especially like it when they say it is 'natural' when it isn't natural at all, just the style for the last 500 years.

if a guy ran around dressed like a woman people would think he was a wack job, same deal with some woman today, they dress like guys, act like guys so they are wack jobs.

We are at a strange point in civilization, and gender roles/stereotypes/relations are all very mixed up.

I guess guys in Vermont are not like the rest of country. About 70% of the guys I work with dress like women, but are straight. They wear prissy plaid shorts that look likes women's shorts, Crocs, girly sandals, have long stringy hair, shave their arms and legs, talk in high voices and worry out loud about their clothing. Oh a lot of them are wearing makeup too. The straight guys are so feminine these days they remind me of my gay guy friend in high school. And its not just looks; they are wimpy cowards without motivation, chutzpah or even mechanical knowledge. There's no such thing as a MAN anymore in the under 35 crowd. I mean all the things you could value about male gender no longer even exist. The men dress more feminine than most of the women. Not to mention a number of them are carrying man-purses.

I fail to see how it is so bad for a woman to want a manly man who has a good job. Since women make only 3/4" as much as men make for the same job they have to find a spouse who makes more in order to have enough to raise kids. Most women want kids. You can't have enough income to raise kids if you marry the guy who works at the video game store or lives in his parent's basement. And its not even so much about the job as WHY the guys work at those jobs as its obvious they have no motivation. And few women want a girly-man like the guys I work with. I mean they don't even look like "fertile" men when they are wearing Crocs and have shaved legs.

Good Lord there's not much to choose from for women today. I'm beginning to think Testosterone is a thing of the past. I know its not your guys faults. Its the hormones in the food and plastics and soymilk.

Are Russian girls really hot? I always heard Russian women are very masculine looking and have lots of hair on their face and big uni-brows across their forehead. Course I've never meet a Russian.

Personally I think Native Americans, Koreans and Chinese are sexy. Oh and also the British. I also have discovered that half-breed half-Caucasian/half-Pueblo from New Mexico are damn hot and they even have sexy voices. I can't move there or I would become a stalker.

Johnnie, the women you're hunting see you as invisible and that's a fact. There are unwritten rules that state that women of a certain value see lower-income males as useless. But why blame women? They're not the ones writing the rules, they may be enforcing them, but they're not the socio-economic rulemakes. No, it is us men who make the rules and a patriarchial system thrives on making women make bad decisions. A patriarchial system encourages women to choose status, money, and power over compatability, loyalty, and honesty. And Johnnie, you are a man. And therefore, a victim of our own brotherhood's design. Stop obsessing over the unwritten rule-followers. It leaves you no time or energy to be open to the women who don't follow the unwritten rules. They are out there. Somewhere.
