Why are you here: To talk to people and hear others' experiences, to engage in discussions on my favorite topics, and to share with others in a way that might offer some solace.
When were you diagnosed: ASD diagnosis February this year, 2025.
Favorite Subjects: I graduated from University in 2010 with a Bachelor's in English Lit with a Minor in Communications. So, English and Media are my favorites. I also took electives in History, Business, and Religion.
Year/Grade: See Above.
Favorite Music: 70s glam and punk rock as well as disco, 80s cheesey pop ballads and new wave as well as hair metal, 90s alternate rock/metal and pop princesses, 00s dance and pop as well as emo and more metal, any "one hit wonder" ever released
Favorite Books: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, Jane Eyre, Little House in the Big Woods, Pilgrim's Progress, Beowulf, The Odyssey, The Metamorphasis, anything written by Philip K. Dick or Stephen King, anything written by Chuck Palanhiuk or Hunter S. Thompson, the Amelia Bedelia series, the Boxcar Children series, the Narnia series
TV Shows/Movies: Too many to name, but my favorite TV show is Lost and my favorite movie is The Matrix.
Instruments: Used to play drums when I was younger, looking to get back into it. I can play by ear.
Do you like sports: Only if, as pro wrestler Big E. put it, there are "big sweaty men slapping meat." So basically just gridiron football, MMA, and pro wrestling!
Family: I live with my parents, two of my younger brothers, a dog, and two cats.
Clothing: This is a tough one. I'm mid-gender transition and in the middle of a weight loss journey. So all my old clothes don't fit me anymore and I haven't gotten to get a new wardrobe yet. All my old "guy" clothes are mostly jeans and graphic tees.
How did you find this website: On an online list of autism resources.
Job: I'm unemployed right now, but currently working on getting a data-related job as work-from-home. My jobs in the past have all been retail-focused on selling particular products I like- usually electronics or food. But those jobs are too stressful and I never kept one for more than a couple years. Such is the case when you have undiagnosed autism and think you must just suck at everything.
Plans for the future: Find a partner to love and cherish, and either going back to school to get a Master's in Linguistics to enter the education field, or re-learning the drums to enter the music field.
Any comments: I miss forums like these. Not a lot of old-school style forums anymore.

When were you diagnosed? With ASD Level 1 in 2024, at age 60. Suspected much earlier when my youngest daughter was being assessed and eventually diagnosed.
Favorite subjects: Environmental Science, Chemistry, Applied Mathematics.
Year/Grade: finished high school in 1980 
Favorite music: Metal genres... Currently mostly listening to Dream Theater, Mastodon, Periphery, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Plini, Lari Basilio . . . also known to enjoy acoustic fingerstyle guitar (Joni Mitchell, Bruce Cockburn, Kelly Joe Phelps) and 80s AOR.
Books: Novels by Tim Winton, lots of science fiction

Job: Associate Professor in Environmental Science. I love to teach science and coding; research has lost its appeal over the years.
Plans for the future? Finish an open source book on data analysis for Environmental Science. Advocate for neurodivergent folk in academia and related jobs. Retire.

Why are you here? Discussions about autism and life
When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): At 60 my son said he thought I was autistic, I read a little but didn't have the bandwidth to do much. This past year I was laid off, and started investigating autism. I found Embrace Autism web page and took the AQ, and passed . I've taken a few other tests online that seem to confirm. I'm going to a counselor that works with autistic teens and adults, and she agrees I'm autistic. I don't think I have any particular need for a full diagnosis since I've decided to retire.
Favorite subjects: software development

Favorite music: Everything But The Girl, The Cars, David Bowie, Blue Oyster Cult, Led Zeppelin, lots of 80s rock. I usually get fixated on one group, even one doing and listen to that for months.

An eclectic mix but I tend to go for music that sounds ethereal, moody or very upbeat. Tatu is still my favourite band!
Books:
Non-fiction about topics of interest mostly (currently reading difficult women by helen lewis), favourite novels are great apes by will self and the evolution of Bruno Littlemore by Benjamin hale.
(I have completely forgotten having ever read "the last vampire" whatever that is.)
TV shows/Movies:
Avatar series (james cameron), planet of the apes reboot, a few documentaries, disney tarzan, bobs burgers, I like more but those jump out first. Billy elliot is still an all time fave.
Instrument:
None, whatever keyboard I learned in school music lessons I since forgot!

Team sports don't interest me. But I like lifting/body building, swimming and climbing for exercise.

Mum, brother and sister. Dad died last year.
