I remember when jobs were advertised on little card in the actual jobcentre itself and the staff in the jobcentre were really helpful as well
It's difficult for me to fathom
helpful and
jobcentre in the same sentence.

I've heard stories but I can't really wrap my head around it. I hated going. The building was like an old rundown school. Any personality that it may have formerly had was long gone. It had large overhead lights that buzzed like a swarm of insects. There were grimy windows that looked like they hadn't been cleaned in years. Somehow there was always a musty smell, maybe it was damp mould.
The computers were so slow. I'd sit down and have a ten minute conversation to confirm that I was still applying to jobs and hadn't given up yet. My advisor would write that in their notes and that was it. Well, that was it until next time where we'd have the exact same conversation. No suggestions. No help. Just meaningless box-ticking.
