(I'm assuming you're talking about the real FF2, and not the US SNES game)

I must be weird, because I actually liked FF2's levelling system a lot...I thought it had a lot of potential, but I guess they decided to go back to the original system and just think of some other gimmick (the Onion kid job system). I especially liked the "taking damage levels up your HP" thing because it meant that character wasn't going to be the weak one who keeps dying the rest of the game...and I didn't cheap out and attack all my characters like everyone else says to do

Finished the GBA remake, but I still need to go through the bonus quest.

I guess that must be my AS becuase I was so use to the routine of the ATB and ff1 system then to play ff2 gba remake to find out they did use the same system,so that was a change and I did like it.But then again I also hated FFXII.Yet I like dragon quest 8 while many DQ fan didn't.I also Prefer Chrono Trigger to Chrono Cross but then again I am a Akria Toriyama fan.

I like the ATB system too.

I've played a demo of FF:XII and couldn't stand the new battle system.

DQ fans didn't like VIII? That's the first DQ game I've ever played, and it's actually one of my favorite RPGs. Can you tell me the reasons why they didn't like it?

IMO, Chrono Trigger was WAY better than Cross, and not just because of Toriyama (I like his work too). The reason why Trigger was so darn good was because it was a collaborative effort from the best developers of Sqauresoft and the best of Enix (when they were two separate companies). Cross wasn't, so it obviously doesn't have the same "magic" that Trigger had. Don't get me wrong, Cross is still an amazing RPG experience, it's just not as memorable as Trigger. I'm still upset because my copy of Cross has a glitch at the end of disk 1 (that part where Serge changes back to normal) that prevents me from finishing it (I've borrowed it from a friend seven years ago and beat it once, so I bought it two years ago from Amazon. Too bad it was a merger copy).

Sorry, but I haven't played FF II or V so I can't give any advice.

I've only ever beaten the first three DQ games (still working on the rest), so I couldn't say.

And it's been so long since VIII came out that I can't remember what others' complaints were. Most of them had something to do with the traditional game mechanics being tinkered with.

As far as I can tell, there is nothing that can be done to make FFII's system tolerable unless you really like attacking yourself for hours on end. As for FFV, I personally didn't have any problem beating it after just playing through it normally, as long as I stayed away from the chest of death. If you have not yet reached the chest of death, I hope you've saved so you can enjoy the upcoming Game Over.

That's not so much "making it tolerable" as it is "taking advantage of it". And personally, I thought my weak characters were getting attacked by enemies enough that I didn't need to cheat (though I did put them in front row from time to time).

I liked Final Fantasy II (I did spend hours casting the same spells over and over to level them up, LOL), and Final Fantasy V was my favorite before I played Final Fantasy IX (mastering all jobs for all characters kept me busy for quite a while).

Now I am all obsessed with Dragon Quest IX! It has a lot of things to do, whether you like alchemy, quests (missions), collecting items or dressing up, and that is just the optional things. And it really does feel like you are the hero, so I recommend casting your friends and/ or family as the party members.
