Will you judge based on the quality of the materials, the environmentally-friendliness, the attractiveness, the ugliness, the uniqueness, the diversity, the simplicity? The choice is yours.

Since we each have individual aesthetic standards what's the point of the question?

None of those, architecture really shines when it actually "fits" in with its surrounding buildings. Fast example, in China, they're asking european architects to build their funky buildings (i don't think i need to post pics now do i?) which although modern, seem really out of place when compared to the old style architecture that surrounds it. There needs to be some kind of uniformity in the style while still making sure most buildings aren't carbon copies of the same model. :P

The concern with China's behavior of replacing old buldings this way in order to build new ones is that they're also going to lose their very unique type of architecture to a foreign one, in which they'll have to send their architects abroad to learn. =/ (the only exception that i've found thus far are the Olympic grounds, they seem to integrate rather well with their surroundings.... But then again, i have very little experience in architecture and urban planning).

I go only by aesthetics. The most beautiful buildings, I would guess, would be in the United Arab Emirates.

I have, however, come to this basic conclusion: Anything, anywhere, commercial or residential, built in the 1970s is guaranteed to be extremely ugly.

Olive-green and salmon-colored appliances? Give me a break.

I don't have a favorite.

I enjoy French, Italian, German, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Islamic, Indian etc.

They are all nice in their own way.

Hrmph, i guess it's more straight forward if i say it as such as well, but i have no favorite, in the same fashion as Wombat, and my only concern is the one i've listed above.

Russian architecture is mostly inspired by the orthodox christians i think... Hence why there's so many bulb-like things on the roofs.

This article reveals a surprising building with an Islamic-influenced design.

Italy. Architecture is yet another of the many reasons I love Italy so much. :D

I mean, come on, they have a building that leans to the side but doesn't fall over! How awesome is that?! 8)

There are also many beautiful and awesome buildings in the United Arab Emirates. I would love to go to Dubai and stay in one of those really tall hotels.

I have to disagree; provided it's done well, I rather like a cornucopia of styles. I've grown even to like the Hearst Tower, despite the fact that it grows out of a freakin' art deco low-rise. Having many different styles gives a sense of strata, as well as relevance. Buildings should reflect their times rather than being mired in a phony antiquity. Monumental architecture in particular must have a palpable will to power; it is the essence of the skyscraper. /opinion

That said, in terms of styles, I love Islamic (very mathematical). I judge on aesthetics.

cant say, they all have their plusses. But all of those Baha'i faith centres are ridiculously beautiful. Especially the one in New Delhi and Haifa.

Twoshots, i didn't mean that buildings should not reflect their times, but that their design should be integrated by taking into account the immediate neighborhood's style (it'd be like building a chinese looking building in Little Italy district <.< if you see what i mean). And imo, skyscrapers are not that great =.= Dubai may look shiny, but it's only because they have the cash from oil to continue building superficious stuff such as hotels with indoor sky ramp etc -.- or a man made island... And most architects and engineers that make those buildings aren't even local, they're mostly foreign people. I mean, am i the only one pushing for diversity across the globe instead of having ONE uniform pseudo modern type of architecture?
