I'm getting the "cheer up, be happy" speech from my mom. I don't think she groks that this is more detrimental than helpful. Every time I go through another bout of depression, the communication between us stops cold because I get sick of her endless cheer leading.
I'm going to e-mail her an article from WebMD on supporting a family member with depression. Hopefully that will help things.
I can relate BitterGeek, I've had to deal with people like your mom everyday for years...even when I'm working my customers will be like that with me. Recently my dad been developing what I think is a jerk habit of blocking doors and not letting me pass unless I smile or say "hi". He got really angry at me when I said he was bein a "jerk" doing that.
Is it any wonder why I try to avoid people as much as I possibly do?
