I have AS but cannot afford a diagnosis right now.

Of all the unusual things about me though, there is one thing I cannot explain. Just about everyday for as long as I can remember, I have taken a long object like a stick or bent coathanger, and waved it toward the ground/floor. My mother describes it as "beating the stick." When I do this, I almost always think about my obsessions (mainly sports, but sometimes whatever else I am obsessed with). I've been told I make weird faces when I do this. I do it consciously and privately, and if I am interrupted I sort of "snap out of it" (i.e. a knock on the door or the phone ringing). I walk around a lot while doing it and actually get a small workout. I've tried to stop, but after not doing it for a day, the urge buidls up, stronger than any other urge I have. It feels almost like an addiction. I had just accepted that I was weird and that no one would know about it but my immediate family, but thanks to the internet I can become somewhat anonymous. Does anyone else have a similar compulsion? I know there has to be some explanation, I am unsure if it is related to AS though.

Ever since I can remember I have stood in place and turned circles. When I was little I did it almost constantly but by the time I was 5 my room was moved upstairs and I could circle in peace. At first I did it with my shoes on and my Mom could hear me up there and she would yell up the steps to stop it. So I just took my shoes off and did it in my socks.

My circling is a compulsion. If the phone rings or something I can make myself stop but all I can really think about is going back to circling. Sometimes I need to do it for only 15 or 20 minutes before bedtime and sometimes I do it longer. It really doesn't seem to have anything to do with how my day went. I love music so sometimes I put on the headphones and circle to the music. I usually only do that when I have the house to myself for several hours.

My Dad does not know I circle. I would not want him to know. When he comes to stay at my house I don't circle the whole time he's here. Usually for only a few days. When my inlaws are here I wait until everyone goes to bed and then I go to the kitchen and circle. My inlaws know I circle but they have never said anything to me and don't seem to care. They think its just part of who I am.

When I had to have my knees replaced I couldn't circle for a couple months. My wife told me one day that I was spending alot of time nodding my head. Without even thinking about it, I had found a replacement for circling but as soon as I could I started circling again.

I do a lot of pacing, at my Clubhouse. I'm not bored or restless, when I'm doing it. It happens when my Mind gets stuck in London, and it's like I'm roaming up and down her streets. My version of London has Routemasters on every street, so I get three for the price of one. Exercise, a Mini Vacation and Nostalgia.

I pace a lot for no reason at all. I also rub my nose with both hands for no reason at all.

Up until recently, whenever I did something having to do with concentration, like writing or drawing or making something, I just make a throaty "Long A" sound...just say "A" and holding it so it almost like hums until I'm done, and right when I continue, it starts until the end once again. I've been able to stop it for the most part, but actually, it's happened quite a few times lately.

Also, another one I've seen with me is, I have to say words (at least in my head), as I'm typing/writing them in a long, monotone kind of voice (that's the tone of my voice that I hear in my head as I write as well). I'm even doing it now, it's a habit, and I just don't feel right with not doing it.

^^Now that you mention it, I rub my nose with both my hands too, mainly when I get excited about something.

I pace a lot too. Especially when I'm thinking about something. :)

I have an odd compulsion, I don't want to reveal it though because it may gross out many who may read this.

I had (hopefully it's in the past tense now) a compulsion that was very repetitive. I'm not going to reveal it on a public forum, though. It's the kind that could have led to major problems for me.

I curl my upper lip and rub it against the bottom of my nose. I like it so much that I do it everywhere, despite plenty of ridicule my parents gave me for it in the past. Ha, they weren't even able to do it with their lips! :)

Me and Mariah Carey have the same habit: waving a hand through one's hair. But I've learned to 'normalize' the frequency of it. Most of the time.

I fold my lips inside my mouth and bite on them. I do it all the time and most of the time don't even realize I do it.
Oh and when I am in bed or sleeping I either rock or rub my foot against the bottom sheet, all night I have been told.

I went out and bought the Sims 2 a few months ago, knowing I would not like it or play it. And here it remains on my desk, never installed. I read some of the manual and immediately the sense of waste was lifted.

True story. I also have a compulsion right now to type the following before going to bed:

Heeeeeeeeeeeeee heeeeeeeeeeeeeeh eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee heeeheeheeh
