Reading through several threads, it seems as though many people here are fond of kitties(I could be wrong, though, of course, and just haven't read enough  ).

Could there be some kind of...'connection' between kittiy cats and people with as? I myself have always just LOVED them. I've always tried to find out everything I could about them, especially lists of trivia.

There's a book.. All Cats have Asperger's Syndrome. (as well as one called "All Dogs Have ADHD)
I think the relationship is more just a need for connection.. aspies have trouble connecting with other people, so animals become our best friends. You don't get people, you can't predict people, but animals you can understand and predict, so you turn to them instead.

True for me! I guess it's because cats just accept me without me needing to act "normal" in any way. No social norms to keep track of. They just like you for who you are. As long as you provide them with food I guess...

Hee, I have that book, "All Cats Have Aspergers Syndrome"...I thought it was very cute. When I was a child, I had a much closer relationships to animals than humans, to the extent that I didn't think I was human. Now, I have some good human friends who I can relate to, but I still feel very close to animals.

Cats aren't overwhelming, like dogs are. I like dogs, sure, but they have a smaller version of the same effect on me as NT humans. A cat will take you as you are, and will let you leave it alone if you don't want to cuddle, and will leave you alone if it doesn't want to cuddle. They're very straightforward that way. With a cat, you always know where you stand.

I actually read that book, it's really good! The comparisons and pictures in that book are cool. I highly recommend it. :)

I have owned cats my entire life (from about age 8 to 38 so far).

I like cats because they are semi-independent. They don't need to be taken for walks (I just open the door and he walks himself ). The vet care is minimal (I adopt from the SPCA so the cat is healthy and spayed/neutered). I only need a filled food/water dish and a litter tray with litter. I have to clean the litter q day or 2nd day so that it doesn't get malodorous, and I brush the cat every couple of days. That's the extent of the care.

My cat is reasonably affectionate, but face it - cats sleep 20 hours per day - they are not demanding.

A purrrfect pet!! !

These are exactly my thoughts as well. I have a lab and 3 cats right now. I love my dog to bits but some days he just has way too much energy for me and he stresses me out when he paces or stares at me. My cats just chill out most of the time but are always up for a cuddle when I want one. Only one of them is ever demanding and all she usually demands is a cuddle or a brush so I can deal with that (she's turning out to be a bit of a cranky old woman at 14 years old). They're also good entertainment with just a piece of string or a crocheted pylon

i have a strong connection with my cats, both are def on the spectrum even did a blog about my youngest one and her adventures, its www.crazycatowner.blogspot.com gotta change the name haha, but i havent updated it yet been so busy, but jus today she attacked my dog, opened the cabinets using the handle and pulled out every piece of little baggy there was and pulled everything out of that little baggy just to keep that baggy, and left everything inside all around the house, and ate piece of a chair, so shes extremely unusual!

Cats are my kind of people.

I can do without dogs, as pets. As a useful servant such as a guard dog or a seeing eye dog, that is a different story.

I find the urge of dogs to please their human rather obnoxious. Cats primarily please themselves which I can readily relate to.
