I got to play the BEST game on the BEST system at the BEST age at the BEST time with the BEST taste in videogames, I played through and finished Super Mario Bros. 3 on the NES when I was 6.

Nonsense! If you're unsatisfied with the 7th Generation, then get some 6th-Gen games that you missed! Or how about some 5th-Gen games? 4th? 3rd?

The past is quite accessible; these times aren't hard, they're always better than before.

Games/consoles/hardware from "those days" are much less expensive these days

I second that. There is no better time to be involved with the retro/classic scene than today. I get to enjoy games and accessories that would have been totally beyond my means when these systems were in the public domain.

The system I am most passionate about is the VIC 20. I have a collection of peripherals, software and accessories that would have cost in excess of £3,000 in the current economic climate. In addition to that, people are still designing new games and building new hardware that surpasses anything that was done for the machine back in the early eighties -- you could easily be forgiven for mistaking the graphics on one of these games for C64 graphics.

See the following link for an example of what I'm talking about:
