Alright, to get started off, this "Awesome Game" thread is the first in a series of threads. Whenever I get through a game that I determine to be excellent, I'll post a mini-review of it here.

In this case, I've used the word "awesome" in a literal sense, as this game actually awed me.

First, a bit of history. This was originally a game released for the FDS in 1989. The version that I played is the 1998 SNES remake. In both cases, it was only released in Japan. However, there is a translation patch available for the ROM.

In this (first-party!) mystery adventure game, you play as [insert name here], a young apprentice detective investigating the murder of a local high school student. Of course, the plot thickens quickly, but not unmanageably so.

This game is full of plot points: predictable and otherwise. As I played through, I made certain deductions long before the game was willing to let me act on them (this happened often), but the fact that my character was a dunce half of the time didn't detract from the experience because he was brilliant the other half of the time, making deductions that would be unreasonable to expect from the player.

Now, this game gets major points in the area of presentation. The fact that this game was released in 1998 shows, as this game features some of the best graphics on the SNES. In addition to the graphics, the music is very atmospheric and does its job well. Obviously, these are the main upgrades in the SNES version.

At the end of the game, you get a personality assessment based upon your playing style. Now, Myers-Briggs tests can only seem to get me 50% right. This game, though the results were undetailed, was 100% accurate! A f*****g Nintendo game assessed my personality more accurately than a Myers-Briggs test!

So, yeah... Play this game. Now. Get the ROM and the patch, and then play the game.
