Sure I'm only 23 but I've never dated and don't have friends ZERO so no get togethers or parties etc. So I don't even know how I'd behave in these situations. Also since I was homeschooled no prom and the whole College issue of course. :-( So what life experiences have you missed?

Creating and keeping friendships.

I was never able to return the love to the only boyfriend I've ever had.

They don't pay me enough to this...and thank God, I found better ways to use my time!

Living with friends during college (though I doubt it would've worked out anyway)

Graduation parties

Friends weddings (only because I plan on never attending them for personal reasons)

Other people I know have had periods in their life where they just get dressed up, go out with their friends to just show off and have fun. I wish I was like that. Empty headed...I bet it's fun. If I try to go out it gets really embarassing.... that's all I'm going to say there.

My school didn't have a prom so I didn't get to do that either. I probably won't ever have a big wedding or have kids so I don't really care about missing out on prom anymore. I am jealous of people who have gotten to experience the college life...

I missed out on dating in my teens.

I am not sure if they were real dates when I was meeting men two years ago, they weren't romance. Same as when my husband and I went to places all the time when we first met. We would go to the zoo, we went to the movie screening for The Simpsons Movie, went to the nickel arcade to play games, went out to eat and we wore our regular clothes, went to the fair, went to Spokane together.

The entire suite of normal high school experiences. Prom, parties, talking to the opposite sex, that type of crap. It's all supposed to attract an entirely different personality than I was in high school, but I sometimes get the idea that this type of stuff matters after high school, in some bizarre indirect way. As in it doesn't matter if you explicitly went to prom, but if you did, then you have obtained the appropriate set of social skills that you should have obtained in high school.

Now that I am in college, I am doing everything I can (i.e. letting things happen and hoping that the set of experiences naturally happens) to get the suite of normal college experiences. Stuff like getting drunk, or hanging out with friends and having the half-brained idea to go out to eat at 3 in the morning. Stuff like having a social group where the people in it know each other, instead of being a bunch of dispersed microscopic friendships. Or getting invited to events that aren't regularly-scheduled.

I missed out on so much. But not because of my AS, but because of having negligent parents. :( Just look at me, I used to want to date, hang with friends (I had none), go to concerts, movies, car shows, and such, but now I am on my own, poor and left passionless for the things I used to be crazy about, like cars, rock and roll, drawing, etc..

So now, if I got to experience these things, I would NOT be able to enjoy them and get depressed more...

Have I missed out... yes and no.
I wish I was more popular... I tried real hard to fit it. A became a rocker, redneck, disco dancer, actor, Army GI... so I have done a lot of stuff and seen a lot of places.

I think I would have missed out on much of Europe if I did the NT thing and went out drinking every night with my Army buddies.. Instead, I hopped on a train every weekend... seen places and met people that tourist & troops never see.

It seems the more I tried to be NT the more I would screw up. Everything 'right' and good about my life happened when I was being me... plus a lot of f'd up things happened being me.

I had my share of drama, I unintentional hurt or have been hurt by almost every person I have called friend. I have lost everything and left homeless more than once. I have taken a lot of risk, most ending in disaster. I even almost finished college.

I owned my own business for 5 years, I have traveled to 15 countries, I studied with the Royal Shakespearian Theater in London, I went skiing on the Swiss Alps, I had my 21st birthday at the Octoberfest in Munich.

I went out and got drunk & hopped on my motorcycle and almost lost my life after hitting a deer.

I'm married now, my AS son is bouncing around the house... have I missed out... maybe, but I am not done yet.

I'll say at this point in my life I've missed out on a lot. There's not a lot I can look back at and be happy about in my life. I basically did nothing for 4 years until I decided I had to really make a change. I've had a pretty good year relatively to me but I gotta keep on keeping on. It's a slow process.

I did not get into the whole high school social scene, although I tried a couple of times. When I tried, I did not succeed, nor did I enjoy it. So I just gave up on the whole thing. I had few friends throughout high school; usually I kept one friend for a couple of months and then it was over. I realize now that I must have come across as ignorant, isolated, and somewhat odd.

Despite all this, I am happy living my life even without having any friends at school. It gives me plenty of time to complete my schoolwork as well as to indulge in my special interests. The other people who "have a life" can't live happily without being social; they feed off the drama. If they were made to live the sort of life that I have lived, they would probably become depressed because it's not something natural to me. I'm sure that if I were forced to live their kind of life, I would end up being unhappy as well. Each to our own.

i think i may be stuck around the emotional maturity level of around a 13 - 14 year old. any experiences that require a maturity level greater than this will be lost to me. i don't mind at all.

High school boyfriends (not that any guy in school looked remotely appealing)
Having an after school job
Going to university
Playing sports
Living independently
Travelling overseas
Having an 18th Birthday party

The only after school job I had was working at a thrift store which only lasted an hour or so because it was just cleaning. I didn't go to university either, nor live in a dorm.

I also didn't do:

Band
Show choir
