For most of my working life, I've been in jobs that didn't have a day-to-day dress code. So I could stick to the clothes I'm comfortable in. I have one interview+special occasion suit, which took ages to find. Here's the Aspi bit - most suit fabrics feel like sandpaper against my skin. I simply find them unwearable. After wandering around every shop in town, I find one suit that is made from fabric I'm happy to wear.

It needs replacing now, and the shop I bought it from no longer sells that fabric, and I can't find anything similar anywhere. As it's winter, all the mens suits racks are full of 'pure wool' (which I can't stand) or cheap'n'nasty polyester/acrylics. My new job will require more 'suited up' occasions than before, and I'd like to find a solution before this is necessary. Does anyone have any suggestions?

(BTW - I'm UK-based, so it needs to be something I can try on and buy in this country).

I wouldnt know if they sell these in the UK. Try looking for one with a lining made of something other than wool/acrylic/polyester. Round where I am, they have silk lined ones which actually feel good (thats what I have been using for a while since my size hasnt changed much, thought I may need to get it refitted soon since ive been trying to drop a few lbs)

I've avoided "dress clothes" for that very reason. Not comfortable to wear. I know what I need is to go to a menswear shop and tell them that I will only wear a suit regularly if it feels as comfortable on me as my shorts and t-shirt. Now that I know about AS, that might help me articulate that the issue is how some fabrics make me feel.

Not that I like the extra work of "dressing up," but it'd be nice if I was able to do it more often without feeling like I'm wearing a torture rack.

I have the same problem. Silk is a good suggestion. Also you can bring the pants to a tailor and have then line the inside leg part with some acceptable material (silk or something that feels like it is good).
