wow- that ["popcorn lung"] just beats the hell outa "ice cream headache." my dad ate that stuff for decades, i wonder if that was part of what killed him? [aside from pancreatic cancer]. he had trouble breathing in his last years.

Of course its all sensationalism and not really as weird as they want to make it sound.
The issue is the effect of diacetyl that was used as flavourant and NOT the popcorn and it is this substance that has serious health consequence when heated (microwave popcorn?)

A bad taste topic

Food additives are really scary. Like the butylated hydroxyl compound used in the old days to make food packaging resistant to moisture and rot. My breakfast cereal from the 60s and 70s was heavily loaded with the stuff. who knows if it was this crap that could cause cancer and damage developing brains (but not lead to autism).

I personally think that homemade popcorn tastes better. It's more crispy, and there are substantially less additives in it. However, I still do eat microwave popcorn while studying in college because it can be a healthy late-night snack, and it's cheap. I want to figure out how to make kettle corn someday, which should be fun.

I'm a popcorn addict as well, eating 3-4 bags a day if it's in my cupboard.

I eat Orville Reddenbacker's, I haven't read the N-facts, so I hope it's safe (I think I remember seeing the ConAgra name on the box, and I've seen multiple brands of particular product by the same company).

Never liked the taste or smell of microwave popcorn, way to oily and that artificial flavoring is nauseating.
Popcorn taste way better made on the stove with a little oil and salt, I used a hot air popper for years but
its rather dry and flavorless.

I love popcorn, but I don't eat it, that much. Everything in moderation.

Well jeeez 3 bags a day for 16 years? It's a wonder she has any intestines left! I wonder if she was a smoker?

It's been a while since I've had either popcorn or ice cream! I should get some!

My father and I have been popcorn eaters all our lives. He cooks it in a dirty, greesy pot, and it tastes really good, because he made it for a long time. My mother prefers microwaved, because I could potentialy set the complex on fire. I was a little concerned about the mystery chemicles.

That's a frivolous lawsuit. Popcorn is a snack food and not meant to be eaten three times a day every day for 16 straight years.

What Raptor said. I can't even stand the stench of buttered popcorn that takes over my olfactive sensors whenever i go to the movies. -.- Disgusting. I mean, if you're going there to see a movie, eat before you go there. ><

The price of popcorn at a theater is enough to make someone sick. What do they think it's made out of, f%cking gold?

As a forensics toxicologist on Discovery channel said:
"Everything is toxic, given enough quantity".

Moderation is the key.

People will sue over anything won't they? This just reinforces that. What case will she have anyway? She made the choice to eat popcorn every single day for sixteen years in a row and now she wants to blame popcorn because of that? It's like the people that try to sue fast food because they eat it too much and don't like what happens to them.

Nowadays, I rarely eat popcorn compared to what I used to do, which I'm not entirely sure why.
