I'm pretty smart and was put in the gifted program in elementary school... But i'm really bad at school. I had good grades through elementary, but after that it all went completely downhill. If the topic interests me much, i can remember the facts about it with no problem.. but getting the assignments done and everything is something i struggle at. Even in the community college classed i've taken it's, for the most part, been the same.

I should qualify my vote (yes).

I did NOT do well in public school at all, and barely scraped by to get my diploma. I recently went into college and did fairly well studying for Web Design, with a 3.2 average, but that went up when I switched schools, dropped the Web Design and started studying Music Technology. At the first school, it was my choice to be there, but I ended up not caring too much for the work involved. In the second school, it was not only my choice, but Music is my first love. My grades there started and stayed at 4.0 for two years.

Whether it's my choice or not to be there, and how much I care for the subject matter, means a LOT.

I'm a straight A student, that is until I crumble. I had a 1.7 GPA in high school and 3.8 in college, 3.8 up til I crumbled, and it wasn't something that was really a big problem, but for me, it was!

I never really tried when in school mostly because I felt why bother I was in special education classes and everyone was calling me a ret*d so why knock myself out. I never studied and had grades ranging from 78-95%. My final 4 year average was 83% I graduated 93 out of a class of 285. :?

I do well if I feel like I am in an environment where I can challenge myself and flourish. I guess I am different from you guys because while you guys might like language and hate math, or like social studies and hate science, I like knowledge in general. I knowledge-horde with my special interest bouncing between topics. In fact, right now, I'm concentrating on languages. The thing is that school sucks the enthusiasm out of my special interests. I see no point in homework, as I naturally study for topics and retain information well. That ruined my grades in middle school, and part of my high school career. I have managed to get myself together and pull myself up, and repaired most of the damage I'd done to myself. Now my GPA is approximately 3.7, and it will probably be a 3.8-3.9 by my senior year as long as I remain diligent. I guess the thing that changed for me was finding friends whom I could compete with.

With that said, I'm between 1 and 3, so I didn't vote.

Haha well I'm think I'm quite smart but in school I do average to good because I never do anything.
I'm lazy and quite the underachiever.

Socially I had serious troubles at school. But if you talk about the subjects like mathematics, music, grammar, I am often better or same (depends on the very subject) than the NT schoolmates of the same age. Between 12 and 18 years I went to the second most difficult school type (in the Netherlands there are various school types for children and young adolescents, depending on their skills. Here a list from hardest to easiest: VWO (preparing scientific education), HAVO (higher general education), MAVO (medium general education), LBO (lower professional education). Later on MAVO and LBO got merged to VMBO (preparing medium professional education)) It is hard for me to explain the Dutch school system for those that are not familiar with it, since it is an English speaking forum, except of one part.

There are some plans to split VMBO into MAVO and LBO again.

I'm currently in a HBO bachelor program and planning to take up a Master of Science program.

For the most part, I am pretty good in school, but there have been some classes I took that I didn't do too well in (Statistics... :x ). That's why I didn't vote.

Doing well in school involves a great deal of factors. Academically, I have almost always done well, though there have been times that problems in my life have gotten in the way of high performance. I often succeeded at the parts of school that have to do with learning, while being completely oblivious to the parts that have to do with making friends and connections. Ultimately, the latter is probably more important for success in our culture.

I just started a master's program in education today, and I've met at least one other aspie on campus. Things are looking pretty good right now, and I want to thank the WP community and other autistic advocates for encouraging me to get to where I currently am.

Can't you just take a loot at the party's arguments?

BTW, the Basisschool and the Kleuterschool have been merged to an elementary school type for children. The children are there for 8 years. The "klassen" (classes) are called "groepen" (groups) since then.

I just recently pulled out my report cards from elementary and high school. (I found some interesting comments in the first few years too that may help with diagnosing me!) I was mostly average. A few sporatic years I didn't do as well as normal. But mostly was average. I never had any special help at school.

A few years after high school I took a 1 year business course and graduated with a 97% honours diploma! I think I do MUCH better if it's on MY terms, if *I* decided I wanted to go to school and I could study or figure things out the way that I wanted/needed to.

Now I have enrolled myself in a online course you do at home and take the tests online. I'm uh.. not doing that great. I don't have the structure of school to actually make me sit and take the time to do the work. :( So I guess overall I need the structure but I need to do things my way. 8)

I under acheived in school. Including dropping out of Trig 3 years in a row because I didn't do my homework. Nevermind that I passed the tests. The homework is important, right?
