Couldn't agree more. I was obsessed with SW when I was a kid, I still have a Millennium Falcon in my folks' attic along with hundreds of the figures :D

I've been obsessed with Star Wars since episode IV first came to the theaters when I was in grade school. And the character I'm most obsessed with was the Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Vader. I enjoyed seeing him progress from a one dimensional evil character in A New Hope, to the tragic, though ultimately redeemed, villain in Return Of The Jedi.
I agree, the prequels were a let down, though Revenge Of The Sith was the best of a bad lot. While I think it managed to portray Anakin Skywalker as a tragic figure, who chooses the dark path for very human reasons, I was just expecting a lot more. I had wanted to see Anakin struggle with the fate of his soul a bit more, and I figured there should have been desperate, epic battles between the Jedi and the Imperial forces. Instead, the cunning and courageous Jedi are simply lured back to the Jedi temple, to be slaughtered like sheep, or just shot in the back by the storm troopers. If Obi Wan could sense the destruction of Aldaran, it's a surprise none of the Jedi could have any precognitive notion that something wasn't right when their brethren were being murdered.
I had expected so much more from George Lucas.

Star Wars was my very first obsession and is still my major obsession. I'm a Star Wars costumer, fanfic writer, and I'm very well versed in the EU. I grew up with the original trilogy, and although I technically grew up with the prequels too(I was 6 when EP1 came out and I watched the OT at 3), I much prefer the OT. My obsession with Star Wars is so deep, that I shed tears sometimes when I watch the OT because of the nostalgia.

My avatar currently is a simple doodle of one of my OC's from a series of standalone fanfics I'm working on. They're are all set around the same time, but are otherwise unrelated to each other. Iuacuran Fethka(the soldier in my avatar) is a Force sensitive guerilla soldier who serves the spiritual successor of the Rebel Alliance about 10,000 years after the end of the Galactic Civil War. The Rebel Alliance fights the humanocentric and genocidal Sith Empire, which has been in control of most of the galaxy for 2 millenia. I write other fanfics too. I like to base all of my fanfics on canon events based on events that are only alluded to in the books. Especially Early Republic events. I'm going to do one on the Tythonese Force Wars and the Unification Wars eventually.

I'm going to celebration 5 next week, as it is only 3 hours away from me. I'm going in my Jedi outfit which I'm planning on submitting to the Rebel Legion and the Jedi Assembly when I'm 18 so I can join both groups. I'm also currently working on a biker scout costume. After that, I'll do an Endor Trooper so I can join Bushwacker Squadron.

I hate that most SW nerds, or nerds in general these days are older, because Anime has taken all the would-be-nerds. Most of the genuine Star Wars nerds I know are in their 20's or 30's.

Come on, the prequels weren't THAT bad. At least they told us how it all began.

I think I speak for everyone (except communists :P) when i say the starwars universe is amazing, I am however confused when people bash the prequels. at best they were enjoyable and at worst a little boring, however, lets be honest the same could be said for the originals as well. (again i would like to soothe the rage that must be building in some of you by that statement by saying, like most of you, starwars has been one of my most enduring obsessions.) its just...well the best star wars stories (in my opinion) have been told in the form of video games and comics while the movies were great but all basically of the same caliber (again, just my opinion)

I so agree with you, the prequel trilogy is so incoherent and not as funny as the original trilogy is. They just killed Vader's image with Anakin who is just an angry teenager. Yet, it's quite interesting to see how the jedi organisation worked and how politics used to be. I think the KOTOR game is much better than the prequel trilogy though it's not linked to the original trilogy and is somewhat incoherent, it's quite funny and the atmosphere is more like the first movies.

Watch Redlettermedia's reviews of the prequels, then you'll understand. That or pay attention to the best of your ability while watching Ep 1, 2, and 3 and notice all the plot holes, stupid lines, etc.

no, Lucas missed a lot of details on how it began. the original hinted at a lot of things, but Lucas changed it.

the original has a lot more charm than the prequel trilogy. the original had a lot more humor than the prequel. the prequels were just stupid. even as just films, the prequels are stupid

I must admit I like both the prequels AND the OT. Yes.

Though, the first Star Wars film I ever saw was TPM and it did work on me, I loved it. I was in a young child, I was supposed to love it. Though I didn't ever think it was a good movie for Jar Jar, Anakin's "yippies", Eopie's farting or any of those other ridiculous things George Lucas put in there to make it appeal to children. I liked it for the universe, the planets, the technology and the various other things which can be found in any good movie.

I saw AOTC next, then the OT then ROTS. I would rank the movies in this order (1 is best, 6 is worst.)

1: ESB
2: ROTS
3: TPM
4: ANH
5: AOTC
6: ROTJ

I admit that I would never watch ROTJ given the choice, I just didn't like it. I didn't grow up with the OT so my opinion is slightly different. TPM is the nostalgia film for me. ESB was obviously the best movie in terms of quality.

Anyway, I went on to have a collection of Star Wars novels, currently about 78 of them with 6 sourcebooks. So I loved the films enough for Star Wars to become one of my passions.

I - Eh, it was alright. I don't see why people hate on it so much. It's not like Jar Jar was the main character in the film, he was just there for comic relief. Final Battle between Quigon and Obi-Wan vs. Darth Maul was pretty bitchin', especially the chours in the background.

II - Never saw it. But with all this Clone Wars nonsense going on, don't really plan on it either.

III - Saw pieces of it, but I ain't really that interested, especially since this is how it ends for Clone Wars. Too many characters become so badass and then suddenly become "warn out" in the REAL trilogy, kind of a bummer if you ask me...

IV - Love this, it's the one that started it all. No further comment...

V - Not so much, too many good guys get their asses kicked, Han Solo is frozen and Luke loses a hand.

VI - It's okay, too much is focused on the Ewoks in the forest though...
