Allods is a free to play* mmorpg created by Gpotato. It borrows some elements from World Of Warcraft, as such there are two majore factions, and each have three races.
I recently started playing it to get some time off from my other games, and much to my surprise i've actually fallen completely for it now.
I play on the ISA realm in the EU version of the game, as Empire. Anyone else that plays?
If so, give me a poke, its always more fun to play with someone else.

There is some elements of the game where you have the option to pay real money for some items through their secondary currency to the game called gpotato, mind you. It -is- possible to play without investing though.

I used to play but I stopped. I felt like I was wasting my time with their F2P model. My understanding is when I reach endgame all there is to do is PVP and raid. In both cases you need to buy perfume to buff your stats. Perfume buffs only last an hour. So you can imagine at $1.35 per hour if you play 40 hours a week the game could easily run $50 a week. This is not only unethical it's also very insulting. Allods is supposed to be a free game, but it's missing the point. The item mall should exist for auxiliary and vanity stuff that have no bearing on your enjoyment of the game. Making perfumes a requirement for critical game play no longer makes Allods F2P.

I still play it despite they run their F2P how they do.
Its a great game, one of the best free ones I have ever seen, and really its not that expensive to play, atleast on the EU side.
I dont earn a lot of money IRL, but I can still afford to buy insence which is the main thing that many will consider a "need"
however it is possible to play without the buffs, I know several high levels that only plays with a buff when they have earned enough in-game gold to buy it off the auction house. I have tried playing without insence, and I barely even noticed a difference.
Sure elites were a bit harder to kill, but then you just group up for the kill.

And some news from the Russian version:

http://translate.google.com/translate?j ... l=ru&tl=en

"There was a daily possibility of obtaining the blessing Patron playing through. To do this you need to talk with Marianne de Arder (League) or Elizabeth Rysin (Empire). The possibility is available to all characters from 5 th to 34th levels inclusive. If a patron at the time of the dialogue is not active, it will be activated at the time, depending on the level of character: from 5 to 19 levels - 150 minutes from 20 to 29 - 120 minutes from 30 to 34 - 90 minutes. With the active benevolence character would have the two effects, one of which increases the strength or mind (depending on class), and the other increases stamina. Thus obtained temporary improvement equivalent effects, which the character acquires a result of the use of extracts from the shop of curiosities. Time of action of these effects also depends on the level of character and is equal to the time of the patron's favor."

Basicly this means that russian players no longer needs to buy insence.
This will most likely spread to US and EU aswell at some point, and hopefully there will be a statement about it when they are home from Gamescom :)
