why noises bother us?

Does anyone know why we (or some of us) are terribly bothered my certain noises? Like squeal of chalk on blackboard? I am undiagnosed.

Well from my understanding of reading of AS it falls into "sensory issues" noises fall into this category. I myself cringe and grab my ears at a chalk on a chalkboard (I once asked the college teacher to get different chalk). I also dislike screeching (A fork on a plate) or a skill saw tool I run back into the house screeching noises REALLY get to me.

I have a hunch, that it's because that when I'm on a peaceful train of thought, some kid will pass me by, with loud Rap music blaring from the back of his car, and that irritates me.

Yes, I think it's pretty common. I remember back when I was a baby (here I go talking about that again) actually when I was a tottler being in the New York subway system. I screamed when the subway cars would break. I remember during my childhood being startled when I would hear a loud noise. I still get bothered when I walk down the street or wherever I am when I hear (like CockneyRebel) a car go buy with loud rap/hip hop music.
