Ok so when I'm drunk my balance is better and I have less anxiety to do IQ tests. I even work out math in my head better. Who knows what other special powers I have.
I know people on the spectrum aren't big drinkers. But does anyone have the same thing happen to them?
And I'm not saying everything feels like it's better but actually is.

I find that a small amount of alcohol can help lower the inhibitions and make you more decisive and less likely to procrastinate. Never tried it with anything intellectual (I prefer to keep my mind clear for that sort of thing), but it can definitely help with the washing up and other unappealing domestic chores.

I have Ritalin for chores and stuff. But everything seems much more normal for me with alcohol. Usually my vision can only see shapes, tones and shadows and now I can see the whole object. I'm scared.

when i use alcohol or any other substance really, the amount of attention and awareness changes. With certain substances, each a different type, i can focus my attention so strongly, in different ways. Sometimes on the outer world with all my senses, sometimes on my innerworld, thoughts and feelings. Things don't pass by that quickly anymore and i can really see and notice more.

But i realised its all a matter of attentionfocussing, something i practise when i'm not under the influence of anything aswell. I'm just really cuirious.

Well I don't like driving and I very rarely do unless necessary because I have this "spacing-out" problem, and I am always afraid to space-out while driving and it is stressing, but once at a restaurant I had a little bit of wine (not enough to be over the limit) and I remember it was a lot easier to drive, I wasn't as stressed as usual. I don't know if it was really safer tho but it seemed easier.

Most of my Ph.D. thesis was written while I had some alcohol. I find that small amounts don't impair me and having it helps me concentrate on getting the work done because I don't get bored with it so easily and because the work somehow seems like it might actually be of some importance. Whether alcohol-induced or not, this delusion of importance is common among Ph.D. students and other academics and is a necessary part of what it takes to avoid burnout.

Hi Pensieve,

I wonder if this quote goes to the heart of the matter:

pensieve wrote:

Alcohol is a depressant that can have calming effect, and can lower anxiety in many people. Most people perform better when relaxed and perform worse when anxious, and I'm talking about any type of performance whether its job/office-related, physical fitness activities, or simply getting chores done around the house. Relaxation is key to superior performance. So I wonder if this what you'r experiencing. For whatever reason, if alcohol helps you then I would be concerned about the adverse health-effects of alcohol and alcohol-dependence. Please don't rely on alcohol as a crutch. Better to understand why alcohol helps you, and then replace it with healthier activities. For example, if relaxation is the key to better performance, then there are a variety of healthy relaxation techniques you could use for example yoga, tai-chi, zen meditation, and physical excercise. When I was in college I used to meditate for 10-15 minutes before every exam, and it really helped me do better. I have carried that practice through all aspects of my life. Good luck, hope this helps, and please do not rely on alcohol to get you through the day...in the end it will probably make things worse.

Alcohol tends to strengthen however I'm feeling at the time I drink. For instance, if I've had a particularly rough day socially, drinking will make me feel more alien than usual. Conversely, if I feel I've had a fairly good day socially, drinking makes me much more personable than usual.

I just act silly on alcohol. I'm still as socially awkward.

I notice people begin to look a hell of a lot better, and I get better at throwing darts/shooting pool.

My aspie friend in Ohio socializes better when he drinks and is better in social situations. That's how he copes in them.

I have never tried drinking, I have had a whine cooler though and a Margarita but never did anything for me. Maybe because I didn't have enough. I was never fond of alcohol.

I concentrate a lot better when im slightly drunk- .im much more co-ordinated when just slightly under the influence, but Im pretty sure its because I dont hestiate on anything when im feeling it. I'm really good at beer pong and darts when im around 6 beers deep, 10 + then I start getting clumsy and downright stupid the more i go like any other person

That's probably because you process less detail when you're drunk and you see the whole rather than the details. Just a wild guess...
