is that blank look a common occurrence?

People have asked me if I was angry, or what was wrong when I just had my normal face on. I noticed early on that I lacked 'something' in my eyes and/or my face, like I had no soul or something - just this blank and pokerface...a few ppl have told me I look 'crazy' because I have those blank eyes and face unless im smiling or angry.

From what Ive read here it happens a lot with people on the autistic spectrum/Aspies...but at the same time Ive met a few people with aspergers who have expressive faces and eyes. Whats up with that? how come some people with aspergers look more expressive?

I've always been told that one can tell I am autistic in my childhood photographs because I have this "look" in my eyes. No one has ever really specified what they mean by "look". I've also been told you can tell I am autistic via childhood photographs becuase I have a fake smile. All my school pictures are faked smiles because the photographers were so annoying and would harass me into smiling. By second grade I simply stoped smiling and even told them not to bother taking the picture if they had to harass me. One of my mom's favorite pictures of me is one in which I AM NOT smiling.

I've been described as uncommunicative or even creepy because I don't usually show emotion. Some have even experimented with ways to see if I am capable of anger, while others think I'm too angry. When I am around other people too long, I may go blank and disengage from interaction, which others interpret as a very, very bad thing. At other times people will think I'm angry about something. Then I think, well maybe I am angry about some things, and maybe I ought to be angry, too!

Yup. That's typical. The absence of "theory of mind" (sub-500ms response in micro-expressions) is interpreted as threatening or disquieting by the neurotypical. It's blatant prejudice on their part, but they mostly don't understand that.

Most NT's I know love to tell jokes. I don't like jokes and usually don't get them. My wife tells me that most of the time I have a very intense look and I know that many times I have the "death stare". She tells me that I look unapproachable. I do show emotion though and have always been one to "share my feelings" which is something most men don't do. Though now on Celexa I cannot remember the last time I shed a tear. I like that though. I have done more than my share of crying in life from being hurt by others......

To the casual observer I look indifferent if not pissed. Even ppl who know me often ask if everything is ok
