The more I think of the whole idea that Aspie's don't fit in with NT society, the more it makes me think that the answer would be to create our own society. Get enough Aspie's together and buy a large plot of land somewhere, start a hippie commune kinda deal, although with less drugs and more baths (tie-dye and Grateful Dead music can go either way).

Our own city, perhaps. But, no offense, I don't even want to live with other aspies. I need my own space.

What a dream it would be...

No, seriously, it is possible. With enough people and resources we could build something like an aspie version of Auroville or something.

I dreamed of living on an off the grid commune with my fellow hippies (most of us do shower, btw ;)) since long before I was diagnosed Aspie, and it sounds like a wonderful idea!

I wonder if there are geographic pockets where there are higher concentrations of aspies? I read a book whose author was raised Quaker and who found a lot of similarities between aspie life and Quaker life. We have a Mennonite village that prosper's as a tourist destination fairly close by, and it's always sounded like a peaceful, fulfilling existence.

There's a very large community of Amish near where my parents lived, and I always envied them certain aspects of their lifestyle.
I don't wanna be subject to my husband or do the whole god thing, though. :D

So who would wash the dishes while we're all focusing on our special interests?

haha.. I've just wikipedia'd the Mennonites, and came upon something new, the idea of a non-theist Friend (or athiest Quaker). Our local Mennonites seem to do pretty well, their cratsmanship is widely admired, and I think there's a whole village of crafters and artisans.

I think if you get a critical number of aspies together, our strengths and weaknesses might work out :) I can get really into washing dishes or doing laundry, especially if I get to hang the laundry outside. There's something about drudge work that I find so peaceful, almost like a functional meditation. :)

My special interest is anything mechanical. I can BUILD a dishwasher, powered by solar panels, and using it's grey water run off to water gardens. It's almost too easy. 8)

I know someone who is a Quaker, and she is possibly the most social person I know.
They have nice weddings though. Way more casual than any others I've been to.
The thing I admire about the Amish is their self-sufficiency. I always buy food from their farms because it's the best.

Clearly we couldnt run on democratic principles. We need an Aspie Empire. Then we can enslave the Amish to run basic operations and wash the dishes.

a good commune needs a builder! I'm a gardener, seed-saver, composter and beekeeper, I used to teach daycare and have always wanted to keep goats. My sweetie is taking metalworking classes and would love a forge. my fantasy aspie commune would have some aspie artists and studios and artisinal farmers..

I like the idea, as long as we can pursue our own interests unhinderd

Commune of any sort? Bad idea.
Count me out.
I think it would be kind of boring and we'd fight often.
