Stop Ugandan Anti-Gay Bill!

LGBTs are people like us...PLEASE SIGN THIS BILL!

The government there has the blood of millions on its hands. Invaded Rwanda on 1 October 1990 starting the horrors there that spilled into The Congo and actively being a part of it. In Uganda rich businessmen sacrifice children when they embark on new ventures, yet this is supposed to be an example of progressive governance! Museveni is part of that miserable Family run by right wing fundamentalist crazies. It makes Idi Amin look good in comparison.

Just when I think I've seen enough hatred, something like this comes along.

Rachel Maddow is keeping her audience appraised to the development of the "Kill the gays" bill. Unfortunately, she says there's a good chance it might pass tomorrow.

We will! And I'm helping spread the world out on this atrocious act. If we don't stop this bill, it would lead to massacre of innocent people (just for being themselves!). Remember Hitler? WWII? What if there was a government who'd order execution to people with disabilities in your country? What would you do then?

I would avoid living in Uganda.

You have two chances of stopping it: Slim and None.

I would be tempted to say that it isn't our problem, as abhorrent as it is.

Britain gave Uganda its independence nearly 50 years ago.

If they're in the Commonwealth, threaten to kick them out of it.

Other than that, not a lot we can do.

Africa has to sort out its own problems.

This is usually the kind of thing the IMF or the World Bank could put pressure on (if that's the case, sorry, but i didn't read the article yet).

I've also read somewhere that "hate" litterature in Africa is being sent there from the USA by evangelic preachers who are frustrated that they can't criticize openly under an Obama gouvernment. =/ I'd need to check my sources regarding that though. But i think it was in "L'Actualité".

No, you didn't pay attention to my last question is what I'm saying. My question was (and this is just an example) if your country's government started to wipe out people with disabilities, would you let those innocent people die for being disabled (whether mentally, developmental or physically), or will you fight against the establishment for this appalling act?

I posted that petition in the PPR forum, and also posted it on several other forums which I'm a member of. Other than signing petitions, I'm not sure there's much more we can do other than adopt a "wait and see and hope for the best" attitude. I wonder if we could possibly offer asylum for LGBT refugees from Uganda, though?

It's times like these when you should really be thankful for not being born in such a place as Uganda. The United States may be particularly slow on social progress compared to other Western nations, but at least what's currently happening in Uganda could never happen here.

No only brutal force could stop him. WWII was one of the few wars I seen that was worth fighting for. As far as uganda, I think the U.N. might be able to force their hand backwards on that bill if the UN wanted to. So I think folks should contact the UN if you know how to do that...I dont, but I am sure somebody might know.

this could turn into genocide which is easier to prevent than to stop, once it gets going.
