I have been very low lately.. Its just that my expts in the lab have been failing and then I keep thinking about giving up and just running away.. The doc told me to stop using anti depressants to see if I can manage without them... so I don't know if that whats causing all this depression. I have an important evaluation on monday and I have pretty much have no energy right now to go on. What do you do when you are feeling low?

I would really like to help you, as I am feeling depressed as well. I'm the mother of a teenager on the spectrum, and I'm depressed because I worry about my teenager feeling low.

I wonder if you need to change your anti-depressant to a new kind. That in itself is sometimes hard, because you have to work through meds to find which one works for you.

I would suggest that you do whatever it is that interests you to keep your spirits up, but you have probably heard that sort of advice before, and if so, then that advice rings hollow. I would then suggest that you write how you are feeling. This may help when it comes time to go to the doctor, so that you can accurately describe the problems you are having AS they are happening -- but also, writing is therapeutic for many people. Try to keep a journal. In the journal, try to write what has you really depressed, but also alternate the depression information with at least one positive thing per day -- either something nice somebody has done for you, or a beautiful photo you noticed, or an exciting quote that you found, etc. The "one positive thing per day" idea is just to get you into the habit of noticing the good around you.

I also really feel that watching movies can change my mood. Try finding funny or exciting movies to help you out of your funk.

I really do empathize with what you're going through, and I truly hope that you can get some help with this. You deserve the help. You deserve happiness and contentment in your life.

I have wanted to ask the same question on here. I have tried literally every SSRI/SNRI, as well as most of the tricyclics, and none of them have helped. They generally just make me more emotionless than I normally am - which is worse than being depressed.

The only drug that has ever made me actually feel better was adderall. The first couple weeks of taking adderall was like a vacation in heaven to me. If I could feel the way I did at that point in time everyday.... wow ....

Now I wish nothing more than to never have taken adderall, ever. It has literally ruined me.

I have resigned myself to the fact that I am always going to be miserable. Sometimes I can't help but feel that I was a terrible person in a past life and this is my punishment for whatever it was that I did. I feel like I am in hell.

I was on antidepressants & other psych meds for 5 years & I felt better after I got off em than I did the entire time I was on em. When I felt depressed I listened to music, chatted/ranted/b!tched to people & forums online; that helped a bit. I also cried a lot but it became an addition

Anti-depressants, good music, snow, Christmas, holding my cat, and a good laugh from some comedy (cartoons, Internet, stand-up etc.)

Of course two of these took some time to come.

Well I use cannabis, and I have to admit sometimes when I drink its not just because I like drinking its because I want to forget about everything(i don't tell people about that though, becuase I know its not good to use alcohol that way).

I go to sleep. If I still feel depressed, I go back to sleep again.

Gave up alcohol after I nearly killed myself literally from both alcochol poisioning and also by trying to jump off the patio. If frnds were not around I think I would have been handicapped or dead by now. :S
No hard drugs t's hard for me to stop if I start so no.

Thanks for the advice though

SRI's can sometimes have that effect. I've recently added Welbutrin into my regimen, in addition to the fluoxetine I was already on. Unlike fluoxetine, Welbutrin isn't an SRI. I've found it helps me a lot actually. Ask your doc about it.

I found a way to feel like I'm high without using any drugs or substances at all. I developed a major crush on an idol. Heavily crushing on her makes me feel really good. I quit feeling really bad & major depressed after I got off psych meds but I didn't really start really feeling happy till I started really crushing on her.
