Do Aspies like celebrities?

I've never in my life seen the point of celebrities or why anyone else found them the least bit interesting.

Let's say, ta-da! they find out that some actress used to be a porn star. Big whop-de-do. Who cares? I've never met this actress and probably never will. Her life doesn't affect me in any way. What difference does it make to me whether she was a porn star or a neurosurgeon or a lobster fisherman? What makes people care about this?

And then you have some rock star up on stage and girls are going into hysterics over him. Why? My favorite composer is Beethoven, but even if he reincarnated and played a live concert, I wouldn't try to throw myself onto him onstage?! This behavior seems exceedingly odd. Are they whipped up into some sort of hypnotic mob lust-frenzy?

I don't know, I can't understand why I am expected to pay more attention to famous people than to obscure people. Why is it considered weird to discuss the life story of Mozart or Dostoyevsky, but normal to discuss the life story (in minute detail!) of Michael Jackson or Britney Speares?

Is my immunity to celebrities related to my AS? Do most Aspies feel similar to me? Does this make sense?

I love celebrities. I really admire their life style.

I absolutely hate celebrity culture.

It makes a lot of sense to me and I can feel similarly about brand-names (unless the brand has a reputation for working well or lasting a long time). I don't think it's an AS thing though or if it is, it's not an immunity that is shared by all Aspies.

I found it annoying when trying to talk to NT girls at school, they'd babble on about who was doing what, where, when and how. I'd wait for something at times that I could contribute to but when I got bored I'd do something that interested me at the time (like palm-reading or coin spinning) that would grab their attention.

It depends on the celebrity. Some do alot of good in terms of charity work and they are decent role models. Others, like Britney Spears and Paris Hilton, don't deserve public accolades.

I don't really follow celebrities. I don't really care about their biographies, I just care that they are being good role models. If they do stupid things, they can be quite toxic to society.

One alarming thing I found when I go to a major book store like Barnes and Noble: if you look at their biography section, you will see more books about superficial celebrities than books about say, Einstein or Beethoven. I had to actually look to find a biography of Beethoven, whereas that Chelsea Handler and Nicole Richie crap is all over the place.

Some aspies do love celebrities. I know that there are several members on this site who love specific celebrities, and I am one of them. I love Tim Burton, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Crispin Glover, because they all tie in with specific movies I am obsessed with.

I completely understand you. Until recently, I didn't care about pop music or anything. However, now that I'm becoming more social, I'm interested in what everyone else is talking about. Aspies often aren't interested in celebrities because they don't hang out with people much, and people talk about celebrities.

Oh, I like several celebrities, although I do not think I do it the way other people do. I don't really care about their private lives, but I love their work.

The concept of celebrity baffles me. I can relate because I have been a local one, myself. It's only cool if money can be made out of it, and people can be influenced. Being well known, alone, isn't worth it.

I must be one of the few aspies who truly admires celebrity culture.

The celebrity culture and people talking about famous people they'll never personally know is another reason why this world is so alien to me. I do not condemn it, but I see no reason why there is so much talk about it.
