Does it bother you when people use text lingo and misspellings to make communication easier such as "ur" instead of "your", u instead of "you", "r" instead of "are", "2" instead of "too", and so on? It actually even annoys me at times.

It used to, but now I don't really care. My annoyance at that kind of thing disappeared along with my grammar Nazi tendencies.

I don't mind it occasionally, but when every other word is written in shorthand like that it does bother me because it's hard to read.

Yes. I've been a regular internet user for the last 15 years, and while sometimes that sort of thing doesn't have an impact on my ability to read, excessive use can. The whole point of using a language is to communicate, and many people are counter-productive in that area.

It makes it more hard to understand the meaning of such text because they might not use "logical" abbreviations and make other spelling mistakes because of the "weird" typing style they use.
It annoys me some and makes it hard to understand someone typing like that.

I find I can't read as quick when people use slang. I think slag is so informal, and it always seems to remind me of scatty teenagers, who are too lazy to even spell. The only time when I use slang is on a text message, because after X amount of characters it charges me another 12p. Call me old-fashioned, but when I'm posting on the internet, I like to use the proper English, to make myself look clear and like I can be bothered. I don't sound clear when I talk because I talk like a cockney, but when I'm writing I like it to make sense.

Yes. It takes an extra 10 seconds to spell properly, and use punctuation. I actually judge people based on how the communicate electronically. I simply can't respect anyone who can't take the time to write properly.

I've gotten used to the fact that people shorten things because they're either too busy to type correctly or don't care. Used to bother me, now it only bugs me if people flagrantly misspell things that shouldn't be misspelled because they're just so very obvious to spell.

Seriously, how does anyone turn "borrow" into "barrow?" No sense at all.

But yeah, it is kind of annoying.

A few people 'tease' me about how my grammar is perfect, even in a text message....I don't mind "u" for you, and "2" for to, or obviously two - but it kind of bothers for for too (because I think the person writing didn't understand the difference between to and too, and it seems wrong).

I don't like "ur" because I read "errr" not "you-are", and it bothers me that people use it to mean "your" as well as "you're" (because I think the person writing doesn't understand the difference ;-))

It makes sense to add a smattering of these in a text to keep it less than 160 characters, but I'd pay for two messages if overuse makes the message too difficult to read. (ie, I'd use them for a message that would otherwise be 163, 164 characters, but not for one that would otherwise be, say 175 characters). I hate it when used on the internet, as I see no reason at all for doing so.

I do like to use contractions and slangy words like 'gonna' & 'cos' at times, according to the tone of the message, to give a more friendly feel to certain messages - especially in order to come across more 'NT' on the internet! ....I love the fact we can write nicely composed, grammatically accurate messages on WP without seeming out of place.
(oh dear - but there I am using an abbreviation!)

I know my grammar and punctuation certainly aren't perfect but at least I do try! I think it can give the impression that you don't really care if you use text speak a lot.

I wouldn't bother typing like that on a forum. You can type pretty much as much as you want so you don't need to abbreviate. On my mobile, which is pay as you go (translation expensive) I always abbreviate because I literally can't afford to send more than one message.

I think we need to be a little bit more respectful towards those who don't spell properly for OTHER reasons because we don't know anything about that person and they might have dyslexia or another type of LD which makes spelling and grammar difficult.

Read them out in a very high and squeaky voice. It does wonders. :D

It can be hard using different typing styles for different things. If someone is in the habit of abbreviating on mobile; they may naturally want to type that way on forum as well. When I decided to quit typing words wrong on purpose like they sounded; my post tying would accidentally go back to that old style when I wasn't very careful because it had been a habit for so long.

Part of the rezone I was spelling & typing wrong was because I had problems spelling & typing anyways & I rathered be put down for having my own very unique style than being put down for trying to type normal like others & failing at it

Only on forums.
