I've heard a lot about her but never heard any of her music before. She's pretty good. I've heard she leaned to channel [physical] energy and from her bipolar manias to focus on writing her music. Bipolar people who can do that with whatever they are good at often make better money than they otherwise would. It's good to see she was able to pull out of her destructive spiral and avoid being the next Amy Winehouse.
What's amazing about Demi is that she is only 18, yet has gone through all this and chose to seek treatment instead of ending up like Amy. I think it's great she is opening up dialogues about bipolar disorder, bulimia and cutting between kids and their parents. When Demi speaks about her illness she sounds very mature. I hardly ever think "Wow, she's only 18" because she speaks more like a 30 yr. old. My mother went through a nervous breakdown last year and said she was very impressed with how Demi realizes she must take everything day-by-day and that she will never be 100%. That's something humbling to be able to accept.
Demi recently did an interview with Ryan Seacrest discussing all of this. She said "Sometimes I get really frustrated. I wish I just could have been been born normal" and that really struck a chord with me. I'm sure we've all felt that at some time or another...
