Recently I've been looking for a stable/decent paying job. When I discovered Over The Road trucking it seems like a perfect fit for me. I really want to see USA, and as an aspie, I don't think I would mind all the loneliness.

It almost seems to good to be true though, I wouldn't mind if a current or former Trucker would tell me about their experiences or give me some tips. Thanks! :D

Do you have a commercial driver's licence? Do you need a work permit to work in the USA? Do you have experience as a large vehicle driver?

I was just laid off after 10 years driving a straight truck, city, company driver.
I loved being out and preferred city driving because I have a family and wanted to be home at night.
Communication with customers and shipper/receivers is usually short and to the point, checking bills of lading against your shipment together for example and work related chit chat.
My problem came when the deliveries slowed down and I had to work in our warehouse for days on end. I struggled with the noise, the smell of some workers deoderant, the flourescent lights and the day in and day out stress of "faking" social interaction with co-workers to the point where I would be in tears or melting down.

I would say go for it though if you're really interested in driving. There is an exhilerating freedom to being out on the road for sure. Just be aware that some city drivers are expected to work "inside" when not driving and that this would bring additional challenges, not insurmountable but difficult at times as well all know. Best wishes.
