I am sure this is old but it was fun to do. I got 22/25, couldn't come up with #14, #18, and #19. The only one I feel silly for missing is #18.

Only got 12, so am a bit disappointed.
Some of them I had never heard of though.

#11 a bit generic

Still fun to do the test :)

#11 and #13 have a * next to them meaning:

Quote:
*Note: those marked with an asterisk are more properly categories of languages

I got #11 because it accepted a specific example.

Haha, I didn't get past c, c++, D and I spelled perl "pearl", so there!, and "basic" was not even mentioned!! !!

My self confidence was crushed, and I had to spend half an hour on this linked website to somehow re-establish it.
After Maths and Geography did not do for me either, I regressed to Literature - damn humanist education, :?.

Um, you mean there's another programming language besides Fortran IV? I can't believe it! Why would anyone want anything else? 8O

Yes, at first I was confused when I typed in FORTRAN, then FORTRAN II, FORTRAN III, FORTRAN IV, FORTRAN 77, CO-ARRAY FORTRAN, etc and they all only counted as Fortran.

Numbers 14 and 19 are not, to my mind, languages. I suppose I mean they're not general purpose enough to include. That also goes for SQL, which, although it has "language" as part of its initialism, doesn't really qualify as something that is a Turing machine equivalent.
Most of the rest of my failures (14/25) are probably due to my sobriety level, plus foolishly trying for things like Coral, Algol, Focal, Snobol, PL/1, BASIC, VB, Forth and a bunch more genuine languages, which happen to be out of favour.

20/25

missed haskell because I couldn't spell it.

Does D refer to the experimental successor to C++, or to the DTrace language?

what about GO?

I can't believe I missed TCL! Everbody ignores him, :( ;)

I got the top 3 and a few others.

I'm not a programmer though. I just know this stuff because I use computers.

Well that makes me feel a bit better, since I not only missed those, but have never heard of them.

I also missed 15 and 23, but I don't feel bad about those.

I was a bit irritated when prolog, smalltalk, and forth all gave me nothing. Oh well.

17/25, pretty good since I don't really read about all the different types of languages, the only one I missed that I feel bad about is actionsscript

6/25 =/
Haven't done any programming since I was 12 though, and I missed out two that I actually knew: Pascal and SQL.
