I'm writing a book about my experience as a woman with AS. I took a Feminist Theory class in school (I now have a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology) and I wrote a paper about gender differences in autism and Asperger's. My book is an extension of that paper, except I'm writing more about my experiences. There isn't much out there about women's experiences with Asperger's. I might get it published, or just keep it for myself as something personal. What do you guys think?

Errr... If it's good and original, do share. If not, please keep it to yourself and supportive friends. One assumes you know that, though. Why did you ask?

I wanted to see what other people think, especially women with Asperger's. If I do get it published, I feel that it would be an inspiration to other women with Asperger's. Otherwise, it would be something theraputic for me.

If you're writing about your experiences with AS as a woman, write about yourself. If you're writing about AS in females, and how this differs from males, include others.

Hi :D

I'm writing a book about my experiences with AS too. I don't know that my story is original enough to get published but it is a worthwhile thing for me so I say go for it and see where it takes you.

I say "go for it". If you were writing solely for money, it doesn't make sense to take the time to write without a guaranteed audience, but if this can be therapeutic for you, it is worth it even if no one else ever sees it.

When you get it done, or maybe as you are working on it, share with some of us. We can give you some feedback. I am horrible at suggesting content changes some times, but I am quite good at grammar, spelling, punctuation issues (I am the type that finds typos in the newspaper). I would happily read what you write both as a female with AS (with a spouse and a son with AS) and as a proofing editor. I am sorry if there are any issues in what I have written. I am horrible at editing my own work - especially after midnight of a really long, stressful day.

If nothing else, you could make it available through lulu.com. I know of at least one other person on these forums that has a book available through lulu. His book was originally written to help his friends understand him. It has now helped a LOT more people than the original audience.

I look forward to reading your perspective. I know I am a LOT different than the two male Aspies in the house.

You should find other women on the spectrum and talk to them about their experiances. If you cant find women in person, perhaps you should put up a questionaire on here so we can fill it out discussing our experiances. Remember, all aspie women are different but you would be trying to get a handle on how women are on the spectrum in general right? If your gonna publish, getting different perspectives is best. You might've gone thru things that many of us havent.

"Good" is highly subjective. Anything anyone writes has value as it is an expression of who they are and how they feel. As for if it has enough mass appeal to get published and be read by a wider audience, well that's subjective, too. Write for yourself - something that makes you happy, something that you feel genuinely passionate about, and the rest will follow. But never let anyone tell you shouldn't write because you're not "good" enough, because there's no such thing. Just don't have any delusions about how hard getting published can be! But you never know.
