I'm currently playing this game and I've almost got it beat. You play as a ball of slime which can shoot around like a rubberband and everyone in your town has been kidnapped except you, and so you have to rescue them one by one and throw them onto rail carts which haul them back to town. You also collect monsters and items. Did I mention there is also tank battles? 
It is one of the most innovative adventure/rpg type games I've played in a long time and I highly recommend it.
