Have you ever been suprised by seeing a reflection of yourself? I was leaving the gym this evening, and I wasn't looking directly in front of me...yes, I admit, I was looking at some attractive females on the stairmasters! Well, out the corner of my eye, I saw movement coming at me near the door. The front doors have dark tinted glass on them, and since it was dark outside, was creating reflections. I stopped in my tracks and stepped back, thinking there was someone approaching me from the other side of the door. As I usually don't make eye contact that often, I didn't look up for a moment, but after I did, I realized I was seeing myself, and my own movement towards the door. The total elapsed time from the incedent was about 3 seconds, but it was notable, since I've done this more than once!

Lol! I've done that so many times in malls. Especially the ones with big skylights and lots of reflection shining off the store front winows. The sort of tall, narrow mirrors that clothing shops have hidden in between the sections of garments have that affect on me too.

Its a weird feeling when that happens, a few times it really startled me. Once, I dropped the bags I was carrying; for a second I was thinking there was this really pissed-off looking chick coming directly at me, (and she looked like she was planning on ripping me a new one), in the next instant I realized it was my own reflection. 8O I just froze for a second and then I heard my bags hit the floor.

That was one of the experiences that taught me to smile a little more. Or at least not look completely homicidal all the time in public.

just tonight, leaving a pub...

i saw my reflection against the night on the glass door at the front and thought i had reached it at the same time as a girl was coming in...

so i stould there a second to let her come in before i went out...

and then i ralized it was me.

One time, I was using the bathroom, got up and saw myself in the mirror behind me, and thought it was an entirely different person. I even apologized and said "I didn't know anyone was in here"

I think that in some cases, if it's particularly dark or bright, that would create an illusion on the mirror so you wouldn't recognize yourself. I was just thinking though, maybe I really have no issue with this, since I can make it through mirror mazes fine.

For those of you who are Azu Manga Daioh fans. I've wondered what would happen if you put the main female characters, into a mirror maze. I imagine it'd be really cute/funny. Poor Osaka and Chiyo-Chan, probaly wouldn't make it out without getting a near concussion though.

Osaka: Ooowwww!

Chiyo: Ow!

And it'd repeat like the whole time in the mirror maze, lol.

That happens to me a few times a month. I'm opening a glass door and I see a weird looking girl staring at me, then I realize it's my own reflection.

Yes I am often un-nerved by my own reflection!

Odd that someone should broach this topic. It's not so much that I am startled by my image in the mirror. But I do tend to become fixated on it and ask repeatedly "Who is this strange person? He looks like a member of the human race outside; but often does not feel like it.

Anyone else fall victim to this kind of mirror gazing?

Thanks,

JimP

I do become startled, if I'm not expecting to see my reflection.
