Does anyone have any experience with graphics plotting in any of the above packages? The documentation for both are seriously lacking and the google groups have been dead for days... I hit a total dead end in my code and could use some help!

You should check out PyGtk! I don't program in python but in the C programming language and i use GTK for GUI programming. The documentation are pretty good for both languages! There is also a forum for GTK as well. It is very easy to use too! I love it!
