Do you use subtitles wherever possible, because of not being able to understand what is said properly? (Sounds like 'Simlish')?

Yes. I often find it difficult to understand what is being said in movies/TV shows, especially if the characters are speaking with an accent, so I like to put subtitles on.

Not often but one time I rented a movie called Spider with heavy English accents I couldn't understand.

Good movie though I'm still glad I rented it.

This also makes me think of the recent Batman movie with Bane. I did have some trouble understanding him a few times.

Not really. I only use subtitles if the program I'm watching is in a foreign language.

Waiting for the day I can have subtitles in normal life conversation  ....that would make life so much easier, no more needing to pour energy into concentrating on the persons mouth.
I find movie subtitles helpful, however most people do not, so no subtitles if I am watching with others - unfortunately.

I can understand almost all accents if they're in English, unless they're purposely made to sound incomprehensible.

I like subtitles because I find it interesting to see what the characters said typed, but also because there are some things I can't always catch. I understand movies and comprehend them much better with subtitles, but I don't usually use them :P

It seems like some talk that is important to the plot is purposely made hard to understand, so i use subrirles to help understand what is being said.

I find subtitles to be too distracting unless they are speaking a language I don't understand.

I don't -- except for non-English language films obviously -- but maybe I ought to consider it. I get distracted so easily when watching TV that I lose plotlines. Maybe if I was reading subtitles, it would hold my attention better. Or maybe I just need to watch more interesting television....

I use subtitles, because sometimes the characters sound like they're speaking gibberish.

^This.

Whenever possible, I use subtitles/captioning when watching movies or TV shows. I feel like my hearing is getting worse. :(

I end up reading the subtitles faster than they are said and not listening.

Not generally, no.

Although if I watch a film in another language, then I prefer it to be subtitled rather than dubbed. It really annoys me when films are dubbed and the words don't match the movements of the mouth, I find it very distracting and hard to understand, so I'd rather stick with subtitles.

If only I could apply subtitles to real-life conversations - I wouldn't have to "guess" what's being said.
