Not remembering directions

No matter how many times I go to a certain place - any place- I can't remember my way around it. It is not only problematic but highly embarrassing when other people are involved.

Does anyone have this problem?

I am the opposite way around. I go to a place once and I know it like the back of my hand.

I tend to have similar problems with direction. It takes me a long time to remember directions, even if it's somewhere that has a very simple layout. I also find it difficult to remember directions that are being given to me by someone, and I often forget which way I was walking in a street if I stop to go inside a shop. I'm just thankful that my Mum knows the city that I go to college in really well, as I've had to call her far too many times when I've gotten lost!

I cant remember spoken directions. If I look at written instructions or map it is like burned into my mind. I can get around my city with ease because I looked at it from google maps.

That's a better way to explain what I feel. If someone is saying "Just go right on 7th street," etc., I can't follow. I'll focus on one part and forget where to go after the first few directions. Whereas, if I see a top-down view, like Google Maps, or just a map, I can find my way around like I've lived there all my life.

I tend not to be able to follow spoken directions, I just don't understand them somehow. So I just pretend I understand, very emberrasing. If I am to get from A to B I need to look at Google Maps or something similar, it's the only thing that works for me.

I love maps, and I hate directions.

I never use the directions features on online maps. I look at maps, and I know where things are, where I am going, and how I am going to go there.

I never ask for directions from people either. I figure out where I am, where I am going, and how I am going to go there from the things in the world around me.

I completely rely on my GPS when I go anywhere new! I suck at remembering directions unless they're written down. Usually if someone's riding with me and giving me directions, I'll ask them to just say left or right instead of just giving me the address.

I am not good at remembering where places are unless I go there normally. I also have to write things down for directions. I also use google maps for directions and write them down.

I also forget directions. I need to use visuals to plan my routes.

i can't remember street names....

but once i have been somewhere once or twice i can get back there whenever.

however if i were to explain how to get there it would come in the form of naming buildings or landmarks i passed as opposed to actual street names distances etc,..

Ooh yeah, me too. Thank god for smart phones.

Before my glorious externalised brain (aka iPhone), though, if I needed directions I'd ask someone, nod while they gave a litany of detail while repeating the first direction in my head. Then I'd follow the first direction, find someone else to ask and repeat the process. It was quite laborious but it worked.

Or I'd...you know...write it down...
