Can a dog get Diarrhea from baking soda if you put a little too much in muffins by accident?

I'm having sort of a discussion about this with my boyfriend and we just don't know for sure what caused diarrhea in the bulldog, Harley after he ate 2 of the muffins.

Thanks a bunch if anyone has any info.

Again,

they were plain muffins...nothing extra from the ordinary.
The dog eats a lot of other things like bacon, scrambled eggs, gravy, food from the table, cake, stc with no problems.

Just wondering if muffins that may have had a little too much baking soda could cause awful diarrhea for him.

Does he seem a bit sick otherwise? I don't know if muffins would make a dog get diarrhoea. Perhaps if he were gluten intolerant he would. But I don't know if dogs get gluten intolerance.

Perhaps to be safe, keep muffins away from him. If he still gets diarrhoea after a couple of days, you might need to consider checking with a vet. Really fatty foods can give dogs diarrhoea - vets get inundated after Christmas with people bringing in dogs with upset tums. Still, I wouldn't think muffins very fatty.

I called the poison contol phone number for pets and they said that a little extra baking soda wouldn't make a bulldog get diarrhea.

Someone made muffins, and the dog got a hold of two of them and had diarrhea all night long.

The only thing that gets put in muffins is:
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon baking soda
1 tablespoon sugar
3/4 cup milk
2 eggs, beaten
1/4 cup melted shortening

We're now suspecting that the person who made the muffins was playing a joke and may have put something in them that makes you have the runs.

My BF and I didn't eat any, but after the dog reacted like that, we threw them out.

They tasted bitter, not right. So I spit out the bite that I took of the muffin.

I don't know.

Bacterial infection is a common reason for diarrhea.
