Is it possible to be truly happy when you have a disability, I have mild AS and my life is not happy at all. It seems like to me we were given the short end of the stick with more bad than good. We are just gonna be picked on all our lives and die lonely and sad. Is there anyone with AS who is independent and truly happy with themselves to the fullest extent. Aka loves there job, people and themselves. They don't have to hide themselves.

I'd consider myself truly happy to an extent. But that's just 'cuz I'm one of those "happy because there's no reason not to be happy" kind of people.

Depends how much you want to accept. As bad as AS is, there are people who are Quad amputees sitting in wheelchairs with other complications. I'm sure they would trade places in a heartbeat with anyone who is socially awkward and can't interpret facial expressions ,etc.

Yes, I'm very unhappy in my situation and I don't have the software in my brain to change my life in anyway. Realizing that at this age makes me very sad.

Well, even though I probably will never completely get over having Asperger's, I have found that you just have to learn to be content with what you have. Though... that can be easier said than done.

I don't see any reason not to be happy. Most of the people here are depressed because of the things they can't do, or being made to feel bad by other's who convince them either directly or indirectly that it is their fault that they cannot do these things, but there are a million great things that most people cannot do. I really would love to be able to fly or to whisk away any negative emotion at the push of a button, and I could list many other things that would be so awesome if I had the ability to do them.

The point is that I have far more disabilities than I have abilities, and it's the same for everyone else. There will always be things that we cannot do, and just because there are others who can do these things doesn't mean you have to be able to do it too. Yes I would like to be a social genius, and it hurts that I will never have the same level of skill as most, but when I think about it, I realize that I'm silly for worrying about experiences I'm missing out on when their is truly an endless amount of experiences I'll never have.

I am independent, not in love with my job, but I do it. I have support at work. It's bearable :)
