I always have preferred emailing over facebook, I don't know why. I guess it's because email is a novelty, and reminds me of old-fashioned snail mail but on a computer :( It's a shame not many people check their emails much

I certainly prefer email over facebook. Of course, I started using email long before facebook even existed.

Facebook can be handy if you want to have multiparty conversations, show off pictures that people can comment on, etc, but I find it unwieldy and cluttered if all I want to do is send someone a note, or even a whole letter. Facebook also has some pretty serious security and privacy problems - I wouldn't post anything there I don't want the whole world to know, since even if it's set to "close friends only" or somesuch, the content really isn't at all well protected.

I like both in different ways. With facebook messaging you can send multiple messages in quick succession, making it seem like a more fluid conversation. Plus, you can share things quickly that you want them to see like pictures or videos. Then with email or even PM's on here they tend to consist of longer messages that are sent less frequently. They tend to take more thought from me to reply to, buts its also one of the pros, the fact they are more thoughtful. Plus, you can carry on doing other things if you can't reply right away, people tend to get a bit more impatient on IM clients.

I prefer everything over Facebook. So yeah, I prefer email. Facebook is more of a thing I use to see what other people are doing, I never use the message feature of it. I miss the good old days when people used IM services like Skype and MSN instead of Facebook.

I prefer telnet over them all. People gotta dial my 300 baud modem to talk to me on my Commodore 64. Yep.

In all seriousness, though, I don't even use facebook, I hate it. I do prefer people email me, but I much prefer talking on AIM over both, but AIM is more or less a dead IM client now, I do have one friend I talk to on gchat, maybe 2 I talk to on Skype, and that's about it.

I'm tempted to just make a website about me, and make all my friends talk to me on my own private IRC channel devoted to me. Thus redefining social networking.
