I am a biotechnology major intending to get my doctorate in synthetic biology, I am a Transhumanist and am interested in body mods. I am intending to have my first implant by this spring, this December would be better though. It is going to be a 1mm X 2mm Parylene Coated Neodymium Iron-Boron magnet implanted under the pad of my left ring finger. It will allow me to feel electromagnetic waves as a sixth sense. My second one I am planning is a biomedical sensor called the HELEED that would be implanted under the skin and provide info on heart rate, temperature, etc it would use bluetooth to send the data to my iPad.

I am also considering getting an RFID tag implanted on the back of my left hand so I can try to wire my house to respond to it(i.e. opening doors, turning on lights, turning on tv and computer all at the moment I enter)

What are your opinions on such technology? It's very rudimentary right now, but has a lot of potential.

I am interested in hacking various cyanobacteria and algae for efficient bio fuel production.

It's interesting. I don't like the idea of implants though. Would rather wear/carry something, far less intrusive.

I'm interested in other aspects of biohacking though, like building lab equipment at home. I would like to build a PCR machine using an ardino, etc.

I'm working on building my lab right now. I'm considering the OpenPCR Machine as its only like $500 and personally I feel the more intrusive the implant the better. I am very interested in joining iGEM one of these days, that would be so awesome.

I have been planning a project for over a year now if I ever join iGEM, it would be to isolate the gene responsible for production of Acetylcholine and engineer an E. Coli bacteria to naturally produce Acetylcholine as a byproduct. Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter largely responsible for memory, and the degradation of it is a major cause of Alzheimer's Disease(a disease my family is heavily predispositioned for) and so it would enable this bacteria to be used as an effective treatment(not cure, treatment) for Alzheimer's and if used by younger, more healthy people, as a cognitive enhancer allowing far greater memory and learning capabilities. I am only lacking to materials or I would actually be working on it right now.

I am really into cognitive Enhancers, have been since I first started recreationally using Vyvanse, and my interest in both synthetic biology and cognitive Enhancers is why I have been researching this in particular. I just hope to one day acquire the proper tools to complete it.

My local iGEM team at UC Merced is working on something similar, but they are engineering E. Coli to produce hydrogen as a byproduct as a potential energy source.

I would love to hack algae to be a biological camera, yes I know it's very common, but I'm sure it's a really fun experiment.

I'm also into Bioluminescence, I think it would be awesome to hack our own bodies to be bioluminescent on demand, especially at clubs and stuff
