Hi
My step son was diagnosed as having Asperger's Syndrome not too long ago. We were managing fairly well until this school year started (his first year at middle school). It's not been going smoothly so far.

What's been the issue? Maybe a couple of us can assist in giving advice.

The main problem is anxiety. He gets so anxious and worked up about school that he vomits. Take last weekend for example. He was fine from Wednesday evening (they were on fall break Thursday and Friday) until Sunday night. He went to bed, but sounded restless (his room is about 6' from our living room), I could hear him tossing and turning. Around 11:30 or so, he got up and threw up, and threw up several times. We got him calmed down and back to bed around midnight. He was awake before me and told me he had been vomiting since he woke up around 4 am. I gave him his normal morning meds, and a clonidiene (he was just put on this for anxiety). He went to school, by 9:30, the nurse was calling us to pick him up. After he got home, he was fine. He helped me around the house all day, and was fine all night.

Do you know why he's so anxious?

The anxiety stems from several factors. He was bullied on the way home from school one day. That was promptly nipped in the bud. He is driven to and from school now. He also had test anxiety, which we worked out during his last IEP conference. He now has exercies, the word test is not used for him. He was also given a "cool down" period so he can have a break during the day. Most recently, his teacher of record pulled him aside and questioned him about his doctor visits, which doctor's he's seen and what for. That made him really nervous, and ruined his day yesterday. My wife and I have a conference tomorrow to take care of that. I'm not fond of this lady at all. She's verbally attacked my wife, and argued with us throughout his last IEP conference.
