Here's a story the mainstream US media failed to cover in order to maintain the country's political status quo. Covered by RT America and Al Jazeera English, hosted by non-profit Free and Equal Elections Foundation, and moderated by Larry King, is a debate between candidates largely shut out of the mainstream debate process:

Here's a link to the debate on Youtube, skip to roughly 1:10:00 for the debate:

Debates are not news. They are opinion.

I watched half of it. I had never heard of Rocky Anderson before, and I don't know why he's in the debate. The other three minor parties have the largest constituencies, so I understand why those are there. Whoever this guy is though, I like the way he talks. He basically agreed with Jill Stein but made stronger arguments than she did for all the same things she supports. It was a pleasant surprise.

It wasn't really a debate though. 3 of the candidates agreed on social issues and foreign policy. I'm sure Jill Stein and Rocky Anderson had huge disagreements on economic policy with Gary Johnson, but I didn't stick around for that. I will go back to it, because I do want to see if there was an exchange between Rocky and Gary on economics at some point.

Yes, but the Al Jazeera link was to a news item about the debates. It was the fact that they happened and the information about them that was news.

Yeah I like Rocky Anderson and Jill Stein a lot. I thought Rocky made some stronger points on some arguments, but I also thought on others that Jill Stein has some really good ideas and more detailed proposals, so at this point I'm slightly favoring Jill. Anderson, Stein, and Johnson are pretty liberal when it comes to social issues so you may see a lot of overlap on that, but they never touched on things like abortion, gun control, and capital punishment. On the debate host's website http://www.freeandequal.org/ you can rank the candidates in order of preference, and the top 2 will participate in another debate on October 30th. The voting ends soon though I think.

I think watching either of the left wing candidates against Gary Johnson next time would be worthwhile. Not much point pitting them against each other right? They'd just agree the whole time. I want to see a fight.

Still, I voted for both since I know the Libertarians will be out in full force supporting Johnson, and he's probably got 1st position on that poll locked away. So, just want to make sure Virgil Goode doesn't somehow sneak into 2nd place.

Even though they agree on a lot of things, I still think there's a contrast of ideas on how to implement those beliefs. No point in paying lip service to your beliefs if you don't have a vision on how they would happen. I know Stein has some really fantastic ideas, and it would be nice to see Anderson go into detail about his. But you're probably right, Johnson is probably doing pretty well in the poll and I don't dislike him so I certainly wouldn't mind seeing him in the final two against Anderson or Stein. Particularly if Stein was forced to elaborate on her Green New Deal and debate it versus a Libertarian point of view.
