I don't think my name fits me. It feels so awkward, and it sounds so weird.

What about yours? Do you like yours?

I hated it as a child, thought it sounded harsh, ugly and quite masculine. But now I have grown into it and got used to it and I quite like it now. I did consider legally changing my name but couldn't think of anything else I wanted to live with.

It's a traditional Scots name so I get asked all the time if I am Scottish (I'm not, my dad is, and I inherited the colouring). Plus it is a plant said to be lucky and I don't think I've ever been lucky, I'm more of a bad-luck-charm to have around!

I don't look at me and see my name, I look at me and see "me." That would not change, no matter what my name was. So no, I don't think my name fits me and I'd rather have no name at all despite the impracticality.

My name is pretty/girly, kind of out of sync with me, but I do like it and I'm glad my parents chose it for me. There's a character in a not very famous film with my full name and it does sound sort of like a filmstar's chosen name. My married surname isn't as nice as my maiden surname (which is Norman in origin). My married surname is Scottish but it sounds English. I wish I'd kept my maiden name or hyphenated them.

I was given my real first name after a cousin with the same name, and all because my older sister (then seven) had almost fallen in love with him, and insisted that I should be named accordingly. My name has a distinct meaning which doesn't fit me at all. Besides, the combination of its letters makes it defy streamlined signature. I wouldn't change it though because I just couldn't get accustomed to such an enormous change.

As for my screen name in these forums, oh well. I've never been able to pick a cool nickname.

Other people love my name, but I don't think it fits my personality at all. My first name is very feminine sounding while I'm quite masculine and blunt. My first name is Lia if anyone was curious.

No.

In fact people on line who discover my name usually laugh about it too.

I love my name (Alexandra or Alex for short); I couldn't think of anything else that fits me as well as it does. I get compliments on it all the time - people say "Alexandra" sounds "grand" or "regal", though I'm the furthest thing from that. :P Which is probably why I prefer going by just "Alex"- it's short, unisex, has a nice ring to it and best of all, is informal.

It's all right. My first name is whatever. I'm a junior, so my kid might be a III. Cuz it'd be cool. My last name I find fitting, but I used to hate it, because it's Polish. But then I found the right way to pronounce it (my family pronounces it wrong) and found out it's meaning in Polish and I'm quite happy with it now that I know it's meaning and that it's a very rare and special name.

My middle name is Thomas, after the surname of the doctor who attended to my mother during labor. I've since found I have roots in Thomas as well. Nobody would ever just let me be a "Tom"

Growing up I hated my first name, named after my mom's older brother. A cousin (his son) also has the same first name but goes by his middle name but I often get confused if my mom is talking about me or my uncle.

And as if that wasn't enough, my younger brother has the same name as a pretty big actor. Our names are pronounced the same but the movie star has the more 'correct' spelling. I've been thinking of filing to restore the original name spelling, or take our Scots clan name just because I'm so tired of hearing it mispronounced, and the name spelling/pronunciation itself was a huge source of childhood trauma from 'peers'

I find that funny because my name is Alex (as stated earlier in the thread) and my younger brother's name is Chris! I actually love the name Chris and I consider it to be just as catchy as my own name. Probably because I was the one who named him when he was born... :)
