A dental assistant and mother of two has been sacked for being "too irresistible".

Melissa Nelson, who has worked as a dental assistant for 10 years, was also accused of threatening her employer's marriage, according to Good Morning America.

Over the weekend the Iowa State Supreme Court ruled that Mrs Nelson's boss James Knight was within his legal rights to fire her.

Good Morning America reports that the pair had never been in a sexual relationship nor sought one. But the court was told that in the final year of Mrs Nelson's employment, Dr Knight began to make comments about her clothing being too tight or distracting.

I've seen a picture of this woman...I thought she'd be much prettier than she actually is. Just saying.

Firing someone for fear of your own fidelity? That can't be legal. You can't fire someone because of your own faults, only theirs.

I think in Europe they'd be more shocked about this than Americans because in western Europe at least there's not this idea that the boss has the right to sack people on a whim... by the way, one of the 'reforms' they're trying to force upon European publics is this idea to allow the bosses this power that they have in the USA, they call it "labour flexibility".

Can you imagine the interviews for her replacement? Credentials check, unattractive female or a male hygienist, you're hired! All the attractive ones will be turned down.

I have a feeling that au pairs get fired by wives all of time for being too attractive.
He was probably taking orders from his wife.

It does kinda suck that hes punishing an employee for his own weaknesses.

Maybe she should keep her job, but wear a burka!

Maybe she wasn't going to sleep with him. Abuse of power at it's finest. How about married men....stop hitting on women. You got a woman. They always like to pretend their own actions are because of someone else. He fired her because she didn't comply with his fantasies.

The problem with potential infidelity obviously lies with the boss for even fearing that was a possibility, not with this hapless lady.

The American system says that employees are less than human. This ruling confirms that.

I once was stalked by an ex-wife who blamed the demise of her marriage on some au pair.

I was minding my own business, paying a visit to my attorney to attend to final details and get my small inheritance,

Good god, that woman was nuts! I was completely clueless, and rather alarmed.

There's this great documentary called "Murder by Proxy" which is about workplace massacres and at one point someone points out that many of the laws governing workplaces in the United States really are based on the master-slave relationships of old.
