I am a new member of the community, and only realized about 2 months ago that I am an Aspie. One thing I have not figured out yet is what an NT is. I keep seeing the term, but I am not entirely sure what it means. I assume it refers to a person who does not have Asperger's. Am I on the right track, or way off base?

Ahha, thank you. I was pretty sure that is what the term meant, but didn't know the actual term. I was playing word games, wondering if it meant "Naturally Twisted" or "Nature's Taffy" or "Nicaraguan Teenager" or some such lunacy.

The term "neurotypical", I have heard, means free of any mental illness. Thus, people with bipolar or schizophrenia would not be NT either.

Personally i prefer the acronym "ND" which means Neuro-diverse and covers pretty much everyone, i think, whereas "NT" has some unpleasent connotations, and i doubt that anyone is "typical".

To quote Margaret Attwood's Oryx and Crake 'Minus the genius gene'

lol. All kidding aside, a NT is just someone who doesn't apear on the autisim spectrum -ie. anyone without autisim.

I kinda have to agree with you on that. I was wondering the same thing until I saw your post. What's the point in calling schizophrenic people NTs when they are even more out-of-touch with the world than we are?

NT means neurotypical, a person without AS or autism. I don't think there's any consensus here on WrongPlanet about what to call people with conditions other than AS or autism, but I saw one member use the term ND (neurodiverse), as opposed to NT.

Some people have said that NT's are people who aren't autistic and have no mental illness. I wonder what then to call people without AS, but who have some type of mental illness if they are not NT's. I'm confused. I thought everyone without AS was called NT. ?!?
