Seriously, it's getting ridiculous.

Apparently for some reason you can like anything you want on the Internet and talk about it, but when the subject of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic or bronies comes up, it devolves into the Internet version of WW2.

It's ridiculous and I personally don't understand why.

It's because people firmly believe My Little Pony is for girls only, and therefor inferior to anything guys are supposed to like, like GI Joe vs. Barbie. When I was a kid I would watch the old Transformers cartoons and no one had a problem. But most "girl" cartoons were a bit too girly, where the characters mainly would cry at the drop of a hat and pick daisies and have tea parties and stupid stuff like that. The male population thinks any guy who likes "girl" stuff is either gay or a traitor to the entire gender, or both. And yet, if I said I like Spider-Man virtually no one would question my womanhood. Yes, it is really stupid and people need to remember what century it is.

No idea.

But it's perfectly acceptable to be interested in violent franchises! That's the sickness of society for you.

Little girls, like 3 to 8 years old. For this reason, people may think that "Bronies" are being overly sentimental and immature.

What gets me is that when people talk about liking other cartoons - such as Spongebob or Adventure Time - they don't get nearly as much hate (if at all) as the bronies do when they talk about My Little Pony. Personally I think that part of the hate comes from the fact that My Little Pony is super-popular. There is a prevalent attitude in the US (not sure about other countries) that anything that's really popular is devoid of artistic merit and only caters to the lowest common denominator. I think that that attitude is a big contributor to the rise of the hipster subculture, hence why a big part of their identity revolves around avoiding anything that's "too mainstream" and when something they like gains popularity, they will insist they they "liked it before it was cool".

I think because most people hate what they cannot understand Me personally am not a MLP fan because its a cartoon for little girls it would be like me liking hello kitty hehe if I liked that stuff people would think I'm gay. I'm rather indifferent to it all I'm more into anime we otaku get a lot of sh*t for that. I think people think most bronies are cloppers imo a clopper is rather disturbing but that's just me.

mlp is strangely addictive. I'm planning on showing it to my kids, regardless of their genders. V:

Two words: Gender stereotyping.

I remember seeing some commercials for my little pony toys when I was a kid but I though it died 30 years ago. I had no idea it was still popular.

They made a new cartoon that has surprisingly adult themes; well, I think that's what it is (well, stuff that children and adults can both enjoy).

I laughed out loud when I saw a video clip on YouTube of one of the Ponies having a tea party with her "friends" (taken from an episode).

I just don't "get" MLP. There is nothing about it that appeals to me, so I don't even know what channel it's on or when.

But if that's what you're into, enjoy it.

It's because of the stupid Binary Gender Code. We should get rid of that code and let people do what they want.

Yeah I don't get it either but I sure as hell wouldn't think badly of anyone who likes it. South Park is my thing. Ren and stimpy was pretty good too.

For the same reason a man looks very out of place wearing a giant pink "Hello Kitty" onesie - it blatantly defies masculinity.

I consider myself a bit of a cartoon connoisseur - Adventure Time has some very deep-set dark themes and moments where a single glance tells a whole unspoken story... I tried watching MLP to see what the fuss was about... I just didn't see any depth - only vapidity or ham-fistedness like so many other cartoons.

Yeah, 'cause beefing up at the gym for the chicks, constantly talking 'bout sex and cars, self-medicating with booze, watching and playing sport, trying to be hard with the swag and gold chains, playing fisticuffs, spending as much time on your looks and appearance as the chicks, and a zillion others, is so masculine.

That's as effeminate as watching MLP.
