There are tons of threads about Judaism/Christianity/Islam. Why not try something else, if you feel the need for a religion? Check out the things that were going on in Europe before Christianity and its brothers infected the continent. I'm not much into religions myself. But I think those Europeans who are should get back to their own roots and dump those Middle Eastern religions. Why? Why the hell not? Why abandon thousands of years of European history? Learn about your own ancestors, and their cultures.
My people = the chosen people of the gods. ![]()
And my people are all demons. Who happen to be the chosen people of the Grand Overlord. I'm almost a Grand Marshal!
In all seriousness, I agree with the proposal for a look at older religions, and some that don't have their roots in the Middle East (and anyone who brings up Mesopotamia or the roots of mankind can go and shove their comments). There is some serious need for humanity to look at the broad range of belief systems set before them.
I saw a great series on british tv called 'terry jones barbarians'. He examines northern european civilization before romanization.
Basically, the pre-existing civilizations were light years ahead of the 'barbaric' stereotypes the roman historians propagated. There was a flourishing decentralised trade network and a surprisingly humanitarian culture - rights for women and disabled people were actually written into the legislation - and we consider these things to be recently achieved 'progressive' ideals! There were also scientific technologies unknown to the romans.
The same goes for African, North America etc western held stereotypes. 120 million people were exterminated in the american holocaust, the epic scale of which has been airbrushed out of history. Entire continental civilizations wiped out and re-written as if they were primitive scum by (ironically) primitive scum.
