very common. see this link ->gut and autism

that's just one study but I'm sure there are many others. GAPS diet is aimed at healing the gut for this reason. It doesn't claim to cure autism, but quality of life will be better without constant gut issues.

I have IBS. Taking psyllium husk daily is making it manageable, but before I knew about psyllium husk my life pretty much revolved around dealing with IBS. When I get stress from work etc, it tends to get worse.

I think autistic people get extra stress from social issues etc and stress, anxiety etc seem to cause or worsen the gut problem.

I started to have problems about 20 years ago. No diagnosis because I could not cope with tests. I find eating gluten free helps and if I can eat less sugar that helps too, as does excercise. It doesn't seem related to stress.

I always thought my gut problems were caused by my aspergers (stress and all that), but to think it could be the other way around? Wicked!
