I've always wondered why this site is a .net and not a .com? It appears that someone owns the .com domain but does not use it.
Is that why?

I;m just curious.

From Internic:

"The .com, .info, .name, .net, and .org TLDs [top level domains] are open and unrestricted. Traditionally, however, names in .net have been used by organizations involved in Internet infrastructure activities and .org is frequently used by noncommercial organizations."

So while we could've been a .com, Alex may have thought it more appropriate to go with .net since we're not a commercial enterprise, and I guess not really quite a non-profit organization (although Alex doesn't make any money from this site).

One could also say that ".net" denotes the idea that we operate as a true network, in support of each other.

Dr NT owns the *.com so the aspie resistance went with the next best thing *.net.

So this is not the reason but I like it because... the last three letters in wrongplanet are (net) and the site is .net 8)

There was a site called wrongplanet.org, but it is now defunct.
