Cnanging Careers
I've been an IT person most of my adult life when I can find a job. I'm nearly 57 and have a few good years working left I hope. The problem is that IT is all I've ever done for the last 10 years and am afraid that if I wanted to change to do something else no one would take me seriously.
To complicate matters I am the only one in our relationship that can work. Wife is in the process of getting disability (shes NT) so I hve to be able to make enough to support us both. I'm good with math and Accounting and love programming and automating spreadsheets and databases for desktop applications. I thought about trying to learn how to fix computers but I am not good at marketing myself. I love music and can play several instruments. Im also good at betting horses. Love to do the analysis and figure it out.
Im also unemployed with no savings and my unemployment will run out soon.
We really don't have any family close to us but if we lived closer I think they could help.
So there you have it. Just looking for suggestions and opinions. I know everyone is different but if anyone has faced a situation like this before I would love to hear about what worked for you. Drop me an email if you would rather.
Kinda funny. I talk about nursing like the beast that it is, and I've tried to get away from it for years. I've worked at McDonald's, Pizza Hut, Walmart and drove a taxi, all in the promise of never going back to nursing again.
The tragedy though is those jobs barely paid the rent. In fact, some didn't do it at all and left me dependent on other people.
So as much as I despise the profession, I do it because it keeps me somewhat independent, and most importantly, pays the rent.
I think that if I lived with someone I'd do something less crazy, like work at the post office or drive a delivery truck.
