I think spammers are getting away with too much here.

There should be a warning process and if they don't stop they will be banned. I would be happy to implement it. It clogs up the site with meaningless crap that wastes everyones time.

I think it's a good idea, hale_bopp! I've come across a few "off-topic" threads, although there aren't very many of those...

I feel that most people tend to be "spamming" unintentionally in the forums.

For this reason, I would suggest having a "3 Strikes & You're Out" type of spamming policy -- however, for more severe instances (ex. former member, 'Atomika') this policy could be overruled.

The best way to enforce this would, I tihnk, would probably be to take a "vigilante" approach: if any forum member suspected another member to be a "spammer", they would report them to a MOD (or other designated authority) by PM and they could maybe keep a 'tally' of the number of offenses that the "spammer" has committed so far.

If this was the case, then the member who is reporting would have to provide proof (ie, a link to the thread) that the person was spamming. We would not want someone falsely accusing another person, no matter what the motive is.

But be careful providing a copy of known spam to the admin because that is the same as spamming so this is a dangerous paradox that could damage the fabric of space. Spam should be quietly swept under the nearest rug.

Why the hell do some people here have the authoritarian urge to see others banned? You'd do well to define "spamming" before you go making these suggestions. I guess it's like "trolling". In other words highly subjective and open to the interpretation of the vociferous high post-count minority who tend to like to try and control these places.

Just leave things as they are. If someone's a real problem let Alex deal with it. And anyway, if threads go off topic that's not always a bad thing. In fact, that's just how the human mind works.

Gosh, no! Hey, you could convene that kangaroo court like you used to do in the "good" ol' days. I'm sure you could waste square yards of screen space in the mods forum with that one, and — best of all — get that warm cosy feeling that can only precipitate from the knowledge that you have absolute power over some other poor sod!

Oh, my rose tinted spectacles...

Pfffft, some people post just to raise their post count to think they're cool. The posts are completley meaningless. If you want a forum flooded with spam make your own

Says the lady with 4000+ posts.

If the posts are meaningless, then just ignore them. People have different communication styles, and abilities; why exclude people with AS who might benefit from this place just because their posts are deemed meaningless or "spam" by a minority?

Like I said, I'm sure if there's any real disruption then Alex, or a mod, will deal with it. There's evidence that happens, and I don't see a problem with it continuing that way.
