Would anyone else like to rant with me about certain noises?

The people in my house are being so restless today. Not particuarly loud, but creating exactly the kind of noises which make me tense up inside or even flinch. It's making me feel quite worn out.

They are:
Doors clicking open and shut
Door being banged shut.
Squeaky doors
Mugs being placed down on a hard surface.
Disorted TV and radio sounds coming from the walls.
Socks rubbing against the carpet.
Kettle being turned on.

Which are the noises which irritate you the most? And any ideas on how not to tense up on hearing them? It doesn't seem to get better with repeatedly hearing them.
Thanks.

I have lots, some similar to yours. I live in an apartment and there's always some degree of neighbor noise -- I kind of realize that but it still doesn't make it any easier to tolerate.

Mine are:

Doors slamming

Someone having friends over and being loud until beyond midnight -- especially when this happens during the work week!!

Drills going/someone doing repairs/handywork somewhere in the building, with power tools

A loud TV or music playing to a level where it's distracting me from my own TV or just silence I want to have

Someone knocking on my door when I'm not expecting a visitor or a delivery -- I can't say how much I HATE that

The constant white noise sound of traffic outside my building -- I live on a major arterial road because it's the cheapest place I could get hold of. Unfortunately, living in a quieter setting often requires more financial means to pick and choose.

The sound of sudden loud noises or shouting from my own TV when I'm watching a movie or TV show. I hate when you've got the volume up because everyone's talking quietly or whispering, then suddenly someone yells. It makes me cringe not just because it assaults my ears, but also because neighbors sometimes sound restless after it, or they bang on the wall, maybe thinking it's ME who's yelling!

Good topic, I have tons too but on my short list:

1. The beeping of a garbage truck or something else, constantly.
2. The sound of a sawzall on anything.... especially that vibrating part.
3. People eating food.
4. Sounds of my cat washing herself or eating her food.

Dogs barking. Especially when I'm walking past a garden and suddenly a dog runs up from nowhere and barks loudly at me at the gate. It just frightens me to death. It makes most people jump, so it's definitely going to make a nervous Aspie jump!

Bells ringing. Not church bells. The electric bells they have at places like schools. I HATE them. And I think it has gone beyond a sensory issue with me. It has turned into a phobia, so every time I see a bell on a wall I look at it in complete fear, like I do with spiders. I often have dreams about bells too. This is the only reason why I cannot work in a school.

Sirens switching on. It fills me with panic when an ambulance or police car or fire engine is coming towards me with just it's lights flashing, because I always know that means the siren could come on any second. And the whole of my mind completely focuses on that and I cannot get it to focus on anything else.

I have always hated involuntary flinching. It's a horrible feeling, and it physically hurts my heart. I'm sure when I'm old loud sudden noises are going to be the death of me.

I would also like to add that to my list. For me I hate, how constant it is - it goes on and on, day and night. And when it's raining, it's even worse because of the hiss of spray.

For me, the main 3 are babies/toddlers crying, people or animals retching (I don't mind any other aspect of vomit-it's just the sound) and emergency sirens/fire alarms.

Low jet planes can put me on my knees
Scratches on blackboards drive me mental
Road drills
Other people's power tools
Dentist drills
Neighbour noise in general, esp arguments, music/TV, sex
Leakage from other people's mp3 players

Since I can't abide the above 2, I am a quiet neighbour and my mp3 player doesn't leak.

I can relate to a few of these,

Slamming doors
Sirens
Knocking on doors
Babies & small children

Really, anything loud & sudden will make me flinch.

On top of this I have another little sensory annoyance related to sound. Years ago, I had a bad ear infection. My ear canal became swollen shut, and the fluid pressure tore a tiny hole in my eardrum. Since then, certain voices with a higher pitch, will make that hole flutter a little in sync with the patten of the speech. It doesn't exactly 'hurt' but it is annoying as hell. It's a subtle enough sensation that I don't think an NT would even notice. But I feel everything that happens in my body.

Oh god yeah! Rain makes it even more noisy. And yes, it goes on all night on my street too -- recipe for insanity! It's the noisiest place I've ever lived.

People burping puts me on edge too. I think it's because I associate burping with vomiting and I keep expecting them to then retch.

Some sounds that make me flinch:

1) Babies crying

2) The sounds of cars driving on wet pavement. For my sanity's sake, the door has to be closed after it rains as my spine crawls every time a car drives past.

3) Brahms' lullaby

I hate paper tearing, tape taken off paper, and people yelling at me.
